Drift Ghost Hd 30fps Vs 60fps

I was wondering with Youtube supporting 60fps now. What do people prefer? Also my Drift Ghost only offers 60fps in 720p do you think its better to record at 1080p at 30fps or to reduce the resolution to get that smooth 60fps now?
 
60fps all the way, it makes a massive difference and for motion (i.e. motovlogs) it's far more important that resolution.

Lurch has demonstrated that his Ghost has some problems with 720p60 though so make sure your camera records properly at that resolution first.
 
Certainly seems that, with the legacy models at least, Drift have done a pretty crap job of implementing 60fps. Why is the picture quality so much worse?!

My first camera was an Easypix Xtasy. I know, who? It's basically a Polaroid XS100 with a grey body. It was the same as the early drifts in that it did 1080p at 30fps with 170º lens angle and then 720p at 60fps with a 130º lens angle. However, the picture still looked sharp and compelling and REALLY smooth. Admittedly the colours were a bit weak compared to Drift but nothing Premier Pro trickery couldn't fix.

So why is the Drift fuzzy and poop at 60fps. Every day I lose a little more love for Drift.
 
I'm wondering if my 2560x1600 resolution screen is making it look a bit worse than it is.
 
That would probably have a pretty strong effect! You'd pretty much have the screen creating 1 pixel of the video image with 4 of it's own pixels. Meaning it'll look pretty blocky and not very smooth (image wise, not movement wise).

I only have a 1200 x 800 monitor that i got for free, and mine looks crap. I'd hate to see it on a REAL screen!

Works the other way too though! I had a discussion with SWMBO a while back because we streamed a film online. She wanted to pay extra because 'HD is better'. I argued that if we did that, it would be a waste because it's only a 26" TV and we sit 8' away from it. So our eyes wouldn't even be able to tell the difference. Sure enough, we watched it SD, looked great. Everybody is happy.

But another time a mate of mine wanted to show off his 52" LCD TV so we watched a DVD..... It looked awful! It was like watching a cutscene on an Sega megadrive game! But he didn't notice, OR care for my explanation about how DVD is actually very poor resolution.

What was my point?...

I reckon that'll be a good way to go to get a true idea of how it looks. Unless of course you want to be pedantic and assume that all of your viewers are Technophiles and they ONLY watch on their massive 4k displays?! :confused:

I'm also told that I'm occasionally quite informative and helpful.

Which is nice.
 
I was watching RJ's latest on my MacBook today. Locked it in to 720/60, and it's way clearer. However, he is using a 3+ black to record...
 
What issues are you having with the drift ghost recording at 720p? Do you have an example? The last thing I want is to record the worlds greatest vlog and have it be crap. (The video quality not the actual content as it normally is.)
 
I found that the drift ghost-s lacks at 720p in quality, don't get me wrong the drift is no gaypro but the 720 especially under normal conditions is just off and even worse after uploading it to youtube, i always record in 1080/60fps
 
Reggie - i will be uploading an example soon. On my channel I upload in the highest resolution possible for how ive recorded that day.

The commentary run is shot in 720/30, as is some of my earlier stuff. The near field (speedo) etc is where you see the main difference. Recording in 1080 and dropping it to 720 in the edit gives you back the quality, although, if you've shot it at 1080, unless youre cutting in 720 footage, you may as well upload at 1080...
 
I have the drift HD and it's very blurry at 720p. I don't like the quality at all.
In another hand, in 1080p (30 fps unfortunately) it's great.
 
60fps all the way for me, you capture so much more detail, plus, if you ever need to slow things down and get a bit of slow motion action you can reduce the speed of the footage even more whilst maintaining fluidity.
