I clean everything with WD40, definitely good for cleaning rims. Except bodywork. The belly fairings on the inside that pick up all the road crap is the only exception to that rule though.

That's a good point. If I don't want to leave a residue after cleaning I'll finish off with some brake cleaner or isopropyl. Did that when trying to fit rim tape.. I stress "trying" because they were terrible quality and would split cause the supplied applicator was too strong. That or the tape was rubbish quality and therefore had weak spots.

Didn't NASA invent WD40, then sold it off because they couldn't figure out what to do with it :p ??? Best stuff in the world :D ~
