Dji Fires Back With A New Small Drone

The industry was talking about Go Pro last week with all their announcements, especially about their new drone. The one thing that I loved about to Go Pro drone is the small portability of it....well DJI, the industry leader in drones imo, just announced a new small drone that folds down a little bit smaller than the new Go Pro drone.

Seems really promising!

I really want to get my hands on a drone next year. We shall see what happens.
 
Wow, shots fired by DJI!

That looks like a good piece of kit, 40mph and 4 mile range? For not a lot more money than the GoPro this looks far better.

I suppose the only drawback is the GoPro drone has the removable gimbal, that's a nice touch.

Been looking at getting the Phantom 3 but now I've seen this, I might save a bit more and get the Mavic....
 
I wish I had spare cash just to throw arround for this stuff. There are so many places where a compact drone would come in so handy while on rides.

I agree with it coming in handy. I have seen some drone footage taken over some twisted and it was sweet.

But the $$$?

Santa knows me better than to think I have been that good.

Being able to carry something like this in a smallish tank bag makes it doable without being weighed down with a backpack for a phantom.

How about pulling a helium filled balloon with a tether and stabilizers?

It would get all the kids attention!

Decisions decisions!

Cost wise I'd get the phantom 3
Functionality it has to be GoPro for the modular(ish) design
But if you want a top quality drone, it's got to be the mavic
 
Just bought one of these!

Keep in mind, the GoPro Drone doesn't have the same functionality - no smart follow-me modes or anything like that. I almost got that one last week, glad I held off. I cannot wait - Delivery date: Oct 18-24... I hate waiting.

Going to miss having it down in North Carolina next week (Horizons Unlimited Meetup at Iron Horse Lodge). Considering the speed limit on the Tail of the Dragon, It would be awesome to have a drone following me down the mountain.

That would be cool!

I wonder how the drone would take the hairpin curves in follow mode. Would it cut the corner?

From some of the test footage, it should do ok. I believe the speed limit on the drone is around 22 mph for the safety features to be enabled (obstacle avoidance) so you would have to take it slow in most places, but just think how cool it would be to have a full drone footage on the dragon. now, if someone followed in a car and was a decent pilot, turn off the safety features, it will make up to 40 mph. Possibilities are huge! Think of the Intro footage that can be added!

Keeping at 22 would be good. That is a lot of money to end up crashed.

This one may be the one to do it with... I have had my finger on the trigger for one too many times the last few months, but the size was always the issue. This thing is tiny but has all the brains of the big DJI's, and even a couple that seem upgraded. Folded up, it is the size of an iPhone 6S+ box...

Track days and twisties!
