Crashed early this evening, low speed green laning off, very minor damage to the bike, got back on carried on.

Lost all footage, before and after the crash. Appears the battery dislodged from my drift stealth HD

I did an off road version of the vloglympics too. Oh well.

Any way I can recover the recording up to the moment of impact?

Drift Stealth HD, recording in .mov format. File is there about 2gig, looks like nothing added afterwards. File not recongised.

Doesn't work in free make either...

Be a shame not to add this crash to my archives.

I've had corrupt files like that before and I've never been successful at recovering anything from them. If you find a way let us know. I saved the files just incase I ever found a fix.

I had a similar thing ages ago with Gopro on track, battery dislodged. There's a program (forgot what it is but you may find it on Gopro forums) that finishes off the code at the end of the file that makes it readable again. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Re: Crashed bike Can I recover the footage? File not recogni

Oh well. I know why I crashed anyway.

Tried "chaning lanes" when I was in a rut, cos the grass looked greener, or the rut looked less browner or something, on the other side.

I was stood on the pegs, and thought "it's just a little rut, what could go wrong" :D

Re: Crashed bike Can I recover the footage? File not recogni

Saw your first green lane vlog and I agree about hating the ruts. I've got a video I need to upload sometime soon where I about lose it twice and drop her on the right side once because of ruts.

Oh, the video problem is pretty common when you're rough with your cams. :P

Run the file in VLC

VLC might try and auto repair it.

Or Contact drift and see if they can repair the file.

If not

Contact a Lost data network guys and tell them

Tried everything. This works.

Haven't paid for it yet. Nothing of any interest what so ever happens in the free sample

most of the stuff I filmed, wasn't recorded, as I didn't realise the battery was lose, the red LED was still on.

So, I've put the file to one side, and I might buy a licence later in the year, to recover it all.

It wasn't an epic crash.

Re: Crashed bike Can I recover the footage? File not recogni

I could provide you with a "sample" for a program i've used to recover my SD cards. Send me a PM.

It's called recover my files V4, it can recover files or whole drive architecture or something like that

Re: Crashed bike Can I recover the footage? File not recogni

Actually, I've pretty much recovered all there is now.

The trial ware version of that software thunderous recommended only recovers the first 50%, you have to pay to get all of it.

So, using a hex editor, I copy/pasted the 2nd half of the data and put it at the front of the file.

The crash isn't on video. Just the wobble moments before the impact, plus some of the ride footage.

I can view it in VLC now. So, it's just a case of seeing if I can convert it to another format and edit something out of it. :)

Yeah, I think I've found a bodge-it-fix to do just that.

Re: Crashed bike Can I recover the footage? File not recogni

balls I have done this and recovered it using a free program which the name escapes me! I will search and report back if found.

KK found it. The program is called Video Repair Tool v1.4, (might have downloaded it)

web: www.grauonline.de

Has worked a couple of times for me, but also failed - all in all worth a go the best one I found yet for video repair.

Yeah that's the one I'm using. They have changed it now, so that it only gives you half the footage, unless you pay, which is why I used a hex editor.

Re: Crashed bike Can I recover the footage? File not recogni

Sorry if it has malware, I'm kinda immune to that stuff so I tend to not even pay much attention. I'll delete so hopefully no one gets anything bad off it. Thanks for the heads up. I'll have to remember in the future to check it out before posting a link.

EDITED to say: If you do have or suspect you have malware, do a google search for Malwarebytes. It's pretty damn nice piece of software.

Hey senthx, I had this exact same issue with a file when I crashed on New Years Day this year. I have the same camera and the battery was dislodged when I smashed the camera!

I was able to retrieve an earlier file which was finished correctly but until today, I had not seen any of the damaged file. But I used the free demo version of the above mentioned program and got the first half just like you did. But the second half is what I want to see. So I am intrigued about this copy and pasting using a "hex editor". What is that and how do I get one? Is it easy to to use?

Thanks. :-)
