I'm trying to edit about 20 minutes of filming this morning, boy was it cold, I didn't realise how cold it was. Apparently it was minus 7 at my destination when I arrived! Though it was a shaded north facing car park on a hill.

Anyway, I'm still new to using the external mic. (drift stealth) it's way better than the internal one. Today I used an open faced crash helmet (like in my avatar on the left) with the mic tucked around the back of the ear defenders. I'd like to be able to clean the sound up a bit, remove the engine noise somewhat and keep my voice there. Ideally using freeware, anyone know how I could do this?

I wore my open face cos it was short trips, and I like to keep my long distance pinlock in a bag out of harms way, don't want to risk needlessly getting a scratch on the visor or insert when I have to run to Porstmouth Monday night, for example

Only software that comes to mind is "Audacity". Not used it much except to mess around in but I seem to remember that there are filters for different noises that may do what you want or at least improve what you have recorded. Freeware and apparently well liked if would Google for reviews on it.

yeah, I didn't go above 30, it was all urban riding.

Try Audacity editor... its free and features some tools that may help, but dont expect miracles...

Yeah I have used audacity to do what you are trying to do. It is not perfect but makes a quite a difference. That is a very good program overall so highly recommend it. You need a little addon in order to export to mp3 but that is easy and it tells you how.

Just needs the path to lame_enc.dll set so don't be scared about that bit.

It's only a good as the filters sample, so be sure to record a good 30 second chunk of road noise every so often.
