Very nice, I thought of doing something similar but I just went and bought a second battery. I can record the full capacity of my SD card (which is 4,5 hours) with those 2 batteries so at the moment, more juice is not neccesary.
If you don't want the crazy bulk of the battery backpack, you can get a cable with the mic and USB connections on it so you can use your mic and charge the GoPro at the same time.
Yeah, I was thinking of soldering that connection to my default cable. I have 2 of these:
And I would then open up the USB plug side, and add the 5V USB connection to the plug with a long USB cable attached. Then run it to a battery pack inside my jacket. But it's still easier to take a 2nd gopro battery with you
