Ever wonder where that other road in life can lead?

From the moved barricade it looks like someone did.

M$B has off-road tires on his Road King... rides it on beaches, up gravel roads, dumps it all the time. Good stuff.

There was adventure rider who did a big write up on crossing Siberia on a heavily modified Sportster he called the Dirtster.

The is the fun of ADV bikes, you can ride anywhere you want.

Would it not be easier to just not to want to ride, where your bike can't? :D

I also believe tires make a big difference. I have been in the forest trails with my bike couple of times and the tree roots and sand are not pleasant with street tires. Still I'd never go to anywhere muddy or deep water. So I don't think I'll be creating that kind of hybrid out of my bike any time soon.

Tires make all the difference, and weight. I take the my DR places I wouldn't want to go on the BMW even with knobbies tires.

But part of the fun is going places other people don't because it is hard.

I'd love to get an ADV for a second bike but then I'd have to buy the gear to go with it too and I'm not sure all of that money spent would really bring me any more joy than I can get now by just riding around on my Goldwing. Sure I could go more places off road and such, but I've got a list of over 100 places I want to visit on my Wing right now, so it's not like I'm out of destinations!

Still, maybe one day....;)

To go offroad you need confidence.
There is an Italian rider that crossed Afica with a 2019 goldwing with street tyres.

Well that's the difference between the Italian and Mengy - the Italian had street tyres and Mengy has street tires... clear difference in traction :D

I kid, I kid... yes, confidence has a lot to do with it. I lack the confidence to tackle gravel, much less dirt. Maybe in my younger years, when I bounced better than I do now.

There was a guy that rode a Panigale around Australia - including a lot of dirt roads. That CANNOT have been comfortable !

I have been considering turning the Suzuki Savage into a Scrambler, but I think I am going to not give myself more work though.

Next year I think I am going to find myself a Street legal 250 trail bike of some sort and get into some kind of adventuring. Or put a higher wattage motor on my ebike, as it is easier to find places to ride and ebike than to take a motor scooter off road near me.

Adventure riding is where it's a team! Just do it. Coming from a life of bitumen I can't believe how much I'm enjoying my ADVing. I should've done it years ago. I think I'm more suited to the dirt now and if someone had told me this even three years ago I'd have shouted BS. Just restricted by my lack of proper GPS (for now).
