Week ago we bought Drift Ghost S and few extra mounts

and today we bought an extra camera GoPro Hero 3+ Black with some extra stuff.

My question is since I have Shoei GT-Air helmet it is impossible to mount camera on chin directly, I have came up with mounting system that is quite heavy and 3M sticky part comes to the side of helmet so that camera can go right in front of chin.

My question is would this curved surface 3M mount hold whole setup or will it fall off?

Any other tips where should we put second (Drift) camera?

I can't see your pictures but I know 3M is super effective!
For example, sometime I have the head outside the windshield (in curve) at more than 200km/h (125mph), it doesnt' move at all. And I have a drift too. So I guess we have the same aerodynamic profile...

I use 3M on mine and it works fine... in fact, it's not a direct helmet-to-camera attachment - there is a shim in-between with more 3M to help adjust the angle of the camera :p . If you're afraid of it coming off, get one of those GoPro tethers... extra peace of mind ;) .

The GoPro on the chin has always looked funky to me, almost like someone hanging out a long tongue while riding :( .....

Thank you for the tip on saftey for my gopro.

Heh to me gopro on the side looked very funny since its like 10-15cm sticking out of the helmet and it looks very big

That pic with the multiple elbows and camera on end.... Using that setup? .... It's gonna vibrate and shake like hell!

Thanks janx for info do you have any tip how to mount it on chin? My helmet has vent there and i cannot mount it directly.

i have drift camera.... but i used go pro pads and mounts for a few setups because of the adjustability...

looking at pic of Shoei GT Air ... and your pic links..... and thinking about it... it WONT be the prettiest setup but i would look at the following...

curved mount sticky pad just to the left of the chin vent with horizontal alignment .. maybe 2" ?? ... with the J Post furthest away from the vent ... then use the right angle/direction change elbow joint (thats directly off your go pro in your pic) to attach onto the J mount... this lets you change from horizontal plane of movement to vertical plane ... but lets you have adjustments either way of course....

mock it up without actually sticking the pads down first!!!!;)

the camera 'should' roughly be sitting over the left edge of the chin vent?!... without the pieces in front of me its hard to say... depending on how much over the chin vent it is may interfere with adjusting the chin vent BUT SHOULD NOT REALLY interfere with airflow into helmet too much because the camera is also going to produce turbulence but no vacuum effect near vent... height of camera may also interfere with vision in lower visor?? not sure...

if the camera was going to stop any adjustability of the chin vent or visor .. then dont tighten the J mount bolt super hard!... firm but enough to swing the mount out and forward.... you could then theoretically add a small cube of rubber (a bump stop) with a sticky pad also... to the chin bar or vent cover to the camera could be swung back in to the bump stop to help with normal view angle...

... the above is essentially your pictured setup but with a couple extenders removed.... the amount of extenders pictured may be great in some situations/applications but i think the wind speed and turbulence encountered around a bike helmet should steer you towards using the absolute minimum length you can get away with!.... the curved sticky pad should hold onto the chin bar enough... that 3M stuff is hectic!! ... just apply it properly!!! ... if still worried then use a lanyard but i would loop it under/through your chin strap base end somehow??

here is the thread where i butchered some go pro mounts to suit my Drift Ghost....... and yes there are adaptors available... which i didnt have at the time... BUT ALSO.... i am somewhat underwhelmed with the tightness of the Drift factory mount bases ... they rattle on a few fairing mounts i have... a LOT!! they need something like that little white silicon widget that Go Pro has!! ... im happy to cross the brand line to get the stability i wanted on the helmet... plus i am of the general viewpoint that while the camera companies "think of every situation" with their mounts , that there will always be a user that isnt happy with the range and adapt it!! ... ill always 'bush mechanic' something like this to get the setup I want!!

ooooh.... double post ... but i didnt want this to get lost in my 'book' above...

the security of the mounts with the 3M tape supplied .. or with exact same stuff you can buy in a small sheet ... if you actually have to move it THAT many times!! .....

Ive dropped my helmet .. straight onto the camera and mount from waist height... no problem!! .... ive walked briskly under the bottom edge of the garage door with my helmet on (i forgot something and was running late for a ride meetup!:oops:;)) .. no problem!!! ... ive discovered that the missus car was right in the way and stopping me getting the bike out the driveway .. so i left helmet on and kinda forgot the camera as i ducked my head in the car door to move it!... again no problem!! ... the alignment of the mount adjustment points i use .. moved a little but the sticky pad holds strong!! ...

the 'accepted' removal method for this stuff .. is a hair dryer to warm/soften it and either a very thin blade through it or just lever the mount sideways or up.... it takes a fair bit of pressure, leverage and heat!! .. and then some gunk goo to remove the residue....

there are stories of the sticky mounts coming loose.... i suspect outside interference and or contamination with something .. fuel or solvent maybe? ...

the suction cups are more prone to let go... and i think some of the stories get 'translated' into 'my sticky mount let go' ???

... a thought occurs.... 'but would my sticky mount stay on in a crash situ?' ... dont know!! ... and while as Vloggers we are 'champions' if we recover the camera to show everyone what happened... ;):D ... i dont think the camera staying put would be the prime concern in a crash!! ... its just a material concern!! o_O
