Hi there!
Brand new to all this, so don't really know what i'm doing...
I'd thought I'd get to know some people before I start making and uploading vlogs myself.
Hoping to get a helmet cam set up over xmas ready for my debut in 2012. Problem is though... I have no idea whats the best kind of kit to get at a reasonable price on the British market.
I'm only a 'L' plate rider (but still proud and loving it). I own a 125cc Sinnis Stealth I love it. Recently passed my module 1 test and waiting for some good weather to get started for module 2. Unfortunaltly I'm only 19 therefore I'll be on a restricted licence which I don't care. Aslong as I'm on two wheels and beating the traffic I'm happy. :D

Looking forward to talking to you all and already enjoying many vlogs.

Happy Riding.... SqueakyBreaks12

Welcome. Looks like were getting all the decent weather now its only going to get worse untill around mid feb. keep us all posted of your test situation. & well done on MOD1 its not as bad as it seems is it? Haha.

Ride safe.

Thanks guys thanks for the reply.

Hi and welcome!

Cameras. You can have very cheap, quite cheap, or expensive. Even the cheapest option is decent enough quality for YouTube.

1. Very Cheap.

"MD80" Clone - about £12 on eBay.
Pro's - Cheap, small, includes microphone.
Con's - Not HD, short battery life, no wide angle lens.

2. Quite Cheap.

"Sony Bloggie" - about £50 on eBay
Pro's - Cheap, HD, screen, includes microphone.
Con's - Large size, (have to buy a wide angle lens.)

3. Expensive.

GoPro HD + Olympus DS40 sound recorder - About £180 (new) + £50 (used)
Pro's - Great picture quality, 170 degree wide angle lens, sensation of speed, long battery life, long recording time, waterproof down to 60m, shockproof, loads of mounting options, excellent sound quality (with voice recorder).
Con's - Price, spending a few seconds in your editing software syncing the sound to the video.

Also, Drift HD, Contour HD, Replay HD, VIO HD etc.

I have used the three main set-ups listed above (and considered many more) and IMHO the GoPro combination is the best. But the Drift HD is also good.

The Bloggie is good for a lot of people but it didn't work too well with my helmet and was a bit squished in there. The MD80 is fine to start out on, if you do decide to get that one and want to know how to mount it in your helmet I have two videos on how to do it.

All the best ;)

Ah ha! Another new person not far from me!
