Let me start off by saying there are some great high end makers of helmets out there. I want to share my experience with Bell helmets which makes me think these guys are freaking awesome!!!

I bought a mid range Bell about 12 months ago as an upgrade to a shitty lid that I got when I bought my previous bike. The maker of the previous lid is not important, but I can tell you it was crap! Poor engineering, poor ventilation...the list goes on.

Now I love Arai, I love Shoei! Having spent a significant time of my adulthood in Japan, there is no need for anyone to tell me how great both these helmet makers are.

When deciding to upgrade the old shitty lid though, I couldn't afford absolute premium prices for a new lid. I started looking at mid/high range helmets and trying them all on for personal fit and comfort. Have to say with a melon head like mine that looks like a busted arse, the Bell mid range helmet fit my bill.

It was on special at my trusty dealership for a bit under AU$400 and I thought it was a cracker! When riding with it, the ventilation was great, weight, comfort, everything was 1000% improve from the original helmet.

Anyway...the Bell's have a magnetic tab to latch back onto the D-Ring so you don't have annoying flap around. Unfortunately a minor problem was that the material over the magnet started to lift. I spoke to my trusted store, they straight away called the distributor and had my helmet switched over instantly. Brilliant!

Then last week I noticed a similar thing so spoke to the store again and the Bell distributors in Australia (Monza Imports) said "Screw that. You can have the upgrade." About another $200 on top of my previous purchase. Awesome!

The helmet was getting sent to Brisvegas from Melbourne so had 2 days to wait before it arrived. Yesterday I got a call from the store saying "Awesome news Mr Phill Andera, they said bugger you initial upgrade. They are sending you the top of the range, Bell Star Carbon"!!!!!!!!! (Mine is matte black to suit my bike)

Picked it up today and I can tell you, lucky it's Valentines day cause I'm in lurve!!! This helmet is amazing! Absolutely amazing! Ridiculously light, obscenely amazing ventilation, freakishly superpowered visibility (the peripheral vision is awesome and this thing is uber sexy to boot!

What an amazing company!! Bell, you have got a fully qualified, overweight cheerleader here with a head like a half chewed Twistie and may I say it, but you guys earned it!

Great customer care, great aftermarket service.

I highly recommend anyone who is looking for a new helmet to seriously consider the Bell. You'll be left a gibbering mess like I find myself right now.

WHERE ARE THE DAMMED PHOTOS MAN? ;);)

Looks like a good unit bro!! ... More review please! .... Soonish I am up for another lid ... And casting about for opinions ... What shape head you got? ... Egg? , tall? , boof (like me) ??

Head looks like a cross between Ben Affleck and John Candy. Nice mix huh? LOL

Seriously the best thing to do is go into a shop and find the helmet that most feels comfortable for your head. At least that way you'll be able to cut some out. For me, the Arai isn't such a great fit although I love them.

This helmet is awesome though. Really impressed by the engineering/technology that has gone into it. Honestly the airflow through the helmet is top notch. The vision is excellent and its also quiet.

Another great feature is the inbuilt speaker pockets for whatever motorcycle communications system you may run. It's super light (3.6 pounds) and the shell is made from Kevlar, carbon fibre and fiberglass.

I don't have it but you can also buy the Transitions Photochromatic Shield which is the visor that apparently from all reviews and hearsay transitions from dark to clear seamlessly. The store told me this lens is a bit pricey though at about AU$160.

When I was riding today it was quite windy so with the previous Bell I was catching a bit of wind with the helmet and getting a bit of lift in the helmet and head shake. Once I changed to the new one, it cut through the wind like a hot knife through butter and didn't notice any wind from the helmet.

The helmet also comes with its own super funky zip up bag as well.

If you're thinking about a new helmet soon, it would be worth your while to at least check it out.

Cheers bro ... Yeah I know the 'just try different ones on' routine ... At the moment I have a nolan n102 ... Mainly because ... Even though it's a 2XL ... A lot of other brands I tried just squeezed my head the wrong way .... Around the crown area ..

I get sick of trying everything because there is so much everything now! ... So I'm trying to narrow it down a little ... I know RJays helmets are out ... (Their gloves fit me well though!) .. Just couldn't find a model that felt right .. Which was a bugger cos I was gonna do the support Aussie thing... Ah well

Shoei has a few that fit ok ... But they don't fit my wallet!!!

I spose even if the bell you have there ... (By incredible good fortune!! Well done on that!!!:D ).. Fitted me size wise, it being the wiz bang carbon one would be too much for my normal budget .... Usually happy with below $400 ish AUD...

Like the sound of that photo chromatic shield too!! ... Or polarised!
