Hey guys im new to the whole 'motovlogging' game and i was wandering... I have a motocross style helmet, would this distort the audio E.g wind noise, and if so is there any way around this or would i need to get a new helmet in a different style?

You should be ok.... Wind noise.... Get a short fur microphone sock ... Available under different names on the internet if none local to you.... Or ask at a camera/video camera type shop ... They will know!

You have Under-estimated the amount of noise from a MX helmet compared to aSports bike one.

Ive used MX helmet with GoPro and A ATR3350. You NEED to understand the GoPro is the worst camera to get set "Audio Wise" because the GoPro uses AVGC, (Auto Volume Gain Control). This means no matter how much padding you put in between the mic and the wind, the GoPro Will Always BOOST the audio sensitivity to try and find a medium. The Trick is to find the correct amount of padding etc. This causes A lot of trial and error issues with wind / Vocal sounds.

MIC PLACEMENT: If you have a Drift Camera, put it on setting 1 and put the mic behind the padding in the Cheek pad. Same Goes with GoPro.

I have Videos of me testing it Here. www.youtube.com/AridersLifeUncut

Not so much underestimated, don't know what camera or mic, haven't got to the "where do I put it" questions yet, don't know which particular mx helmet and padding setup ... ;)

In general a windsock is still a good idea..... Unless you get "one of those atrocious GoPro cameras with no adjustment!!!" Then it's over!! ;):D

Drift for the Win!!

Ive used the GoPro mounted directly to Chin, the audio is ok for the engine sound, with talking...its ok on the Tracks, but on road would be way too much wind noise.
But mine is a Gen1, im sure with a Mic inside the helmut (have to be plug-in, to escape auto gain stuff), and the right amount of 'Socking'.
Itll work as fine as a low budget Vlogger can get :)

BTW, goto the local Hardware store/Craft shop, theyll have the right material your after. You only need Soft Foam or Furry foam. Remember, if the Mic is against Solid material, it will transfer sound as Vibration.

Its not Rocket Science! Google it then Copy it.

I have a DS helmet (AFX-39) and use a Drift HD and Drift mic. I put it in a little compartment right in front of my mouth by the front mouth air vent and I get hardly any wind noise at all unless I'm going pretty fast. Then again, I'm using one of those 'wind socks' or mic cozzies. Whatever they're called haha.

Get one of those hybrid helmets that arai do, Its a mx helmet but with a visor, as a rule ive never been a fan of mx helmets on the road tbh.
