As100 Sony Helmet Mount (too Picky?)

Ok guys, and gals, am I just being too picky? I have a video of how I did my cam with the new Sony helmet mount kit, and it is much better and adjustable than the attempt at the Velcro and wedge mount. But it was still off! It was good left to right, up and down but it wasn't level. It's like it was off 3-5 degrees from being level and I either had to remind myself to cock my head or the viewer has to tilt their monitor.

I love the Sony camera but the mounting systems from Sony suck! I did get the skeleton case and a gopro tripod adapter as well as a gopro accessory kit for like $20 (j-hook, couple of straights, coupe of 90's and some attaching clips). After a few attempts of being able to fully adjust 2 of the 3 ways needed to get this thing looking where I wanted it to, I finally came up with a way that doesn't have the camera 4-5" away from my helmet and still has the external Audio port accessible. Anything else on there and it's gonna look like I just had neck surgery and have a halo with a bunch of pins sticking out. Sony, this is a huge problem if you want to be in with the motorcycle guys! A simple case that allows for an external mic and has a mini ball attachment is all you need to get into the game. A 90 degree flip option would rock too. I now have enough pieces where I might actually try a chin mount with this but fear I wouldn't be able to see the gauges on the bars!

What am I missing y'all?

Wow what a mess lol
I just use the drift mount and dont have any issues.
I would show you a photo but cant be fucked right now, Maybe later lol

My helmet is too curvy for that unfortunately. The one spot it works ends up obstructing the visor and some of my view. I've got some new parts and pieces coming in next week. I'll see what I come up with. I really just want something consistant and where horizontal is horizontal

My Laser was curvy and the flat bit was where the flip opened.

I used a Drift mount with a GoPro adaptor and elbow before going back to 1/4" screw in to the Drift, but it's getting bulky by then.

Wish all manufacturers do what Drift and Contour do and have a rotating lens.

HI everyone, first post here...

Just starting out vlogging and yeah, the mounting options that come with a Sony Action Cam, well they kind of suck. Neither adhesive mount would work on my helmet, and I'm really picky about how the camera is aimed. The modular helmet I use complicated the mounting even more.

My present solution is to use the Sony Ball Head Mount ADP-BH1, with a 1/4-20 bolt threaded into the chin bar on my helmet. I drilled an undersize hole, then ran a 1/4-20 tap through it, and threaded the bolt in so it is secure in the plastic. The ball mount then threads onto the bolt and is very secure. I liked it so much, I have three mounting locations on my chin bar.

This mounting looks clean, allows me to use the waterproof case, and I can aim the camera just the way I want. Check my YouTube channel 'ToastRider' for a few vids shot using all 3 mounts.

I was going to post pics, but I'm too new here...

Love the concours, ultimate sleeper bike with just a few mods! I have a ball mount coming in next week that I will play around with. My current set up works but the less the better in my book and the bulk is irritating to me. Are you running an external mic at all or just using the internal. I would love to see pics. You can email me at PM me for email address if you want.

Right now I'm on the internal mics, with a piece of foam over the holes to cut the wind noise. I have another waterproof case ordered that will be modified to accept an external mic. I will also probably remove its lens cover to improve night images. I'll email the pics, perhaps you could post them here.

Yep, drilled the hole then tapped it for 1/4-20 thread to install the bolt for the Sony ball mount. It's the simplest solution that I could come up with. It actually works very well. The shell is surprisingly thick in that area.
