General Aggressive Filtering ?

Near the end of the vid I lost focus a bit as I was to intent on watching this guy...that's when I got caught behind the white van.. nearly smacked it with my mirror doh!

I posted this on another forum and someone couldn't see why this was aggressive bar the car mirror bit. They said it was normal for London filtering. Yes, people do like to crack on, and there's no point hanging about, but if the dozy buggers haven't seen you to move over, so what? They're not obliged to. Keep your opinion inside your helmet if you can't civilly get them to cooperate. While not all of it was blatantly being a dick, there were enough clues to give an idea of the manner of the guy.

100 percent agree.... I commute to London every day, I make good progress every opportunity I can, but I don't growl and stare at every car driver that dared to share the same piece of road as me.... also I followed this guy for a while before the video starts, decent bikers don't hold up other bikers either, this bloke would not let anyone go past him even though his big bike was slowing down at least 10 other guys behind me... there were lots more incidents of him staring at female drivers to move over but I did not get good camera shots of them.... I would say he qualifies as being aggressive....

Aggressive? Certainly not his riding! Maybe his manner with the staring and all. I'd call his riding slow, but that's just me.

As motorcyclists (as we are all nice people!) it's not so much what we think of each other, it's the impression we give to other road users. Filtering is legal in the UK, although many (cagers) seem to be unaware that it is, and beeping, rev bombing, staring etc isn't going to do the image much good, regardless of how progressive your riding is.

With a wider bike, the motorcyclist should make some concessions that he won't be able to filter as easily. I don't think his aggressive demeanour with all that mirror pushing and staring was necessary. All it does is make drivers angry and they may do something dangerous to the riders coming up from behind... Be careful!

I've given up on this on another forum I use. Most don't see the wrong in it and say he's not aggressive as I mentioned before.

I'll concede a bit on their viewpoint of the aggression, but he's far from courteous, and if anyone thinks staring out a motorist for doing nothing wrong other than humouring what you think is your right not privilege to do as a motorcyclist, then enjoy it before somebody takes offence and decides they want to take you off your bike.

Fair play...I guess the video does not reveal all, there were many other shots that I did not use as they were blurry, and the other instances of him rev bombing and shouting..... Guess you had to be there to fully appree it... I actually felt like apologizing to people on his behalf.....Will have to improve on my video taking skills I guess.... Ride safe everyone....if nothing else it stirred. Bit of debate :-)

..and the other instances of him rev bombing...

I do this on occasion, its give and take, sometimes cagers deserve to get the WTF or wake-up call from their make-up/phones/sleep. I reckon you're in good shape as long as you're giving more than taking though, I try to make way more friends on my route than enemies, we certainly don't need cagers out there that's looking to take us out.

..I actually felt like apologizing to people on his behalf...

I do this on occasion too, especially if a cager gives way and the biker in front doesn't thank them, but only if doing so doesn't put me in danger. I also apologize if a fellow biker was being a douche in my opinion.

Its on us to understand the environment/nature/temperament of a cager, that they're in a different mind space than us and that they need to be treated accordingly. Having more patience, apologising more and being more thankful goes a long way to improving the enjoyment of your riding.

Guys filtering like him are the reason some cagers don't move over I think!

I like to crack on too. But as you've all said, no need to stare and manhandle your way through! Filtering is a privilege, not a right!

Plus I totally agree that he was just hogging the space. I ALWAYS let a faster filterer by. Mostly because I think I tend to filter (in the UK at least) on the safer side of maniacally!
