Advice/opinions please rename - rebrand?

Riderguide

Neil - The Rider Guider
I see a lot of different channels out there - as we all do, and all have their own style and way of branding themselves. I've recently changed my instagram name from Rider Skills to Neil.RiderSkills .... Twitter the same way and put my helmeted noggin on as a profile pic ...... and all of a sudden started to get more followers ....... it's more personal, and I'm not surprised in that Rider Skills sounded like a business account so people were more inclined to ignore it as opposed to having a proper more personalised profile. I've done the same with business accounts trying to sell me stuff I don't require, they get ignored. What are people's opinions - should I change to Neil RiderSkills on YouTube (if I can indeed do this)?

An evolving channel as I learn how things work ...... I've got some nice ideas coming up which will allow me to stand out from the crowd a little (before I grow any larger) and I want to make sure I'm seen as 'accessible' and approachable before I make any rash decisions. My current brand looks like a business - not even a nickname and I'm wanting to stand out a bit more.

What are people's thoughts? Taking in to consideration I won't be changing the colourscheme/theme, that will stay the same.

I also have another option - name wise ....... My last name is Driver. Rider Driver? Or Neil RiderSkills? Any other ideas gratefully received, in gest or for real :D

Rider Driver could confuse people as to what your channel is about possibly? You do need to be human, so it might be worth thinking about a rebrand. I'd check with YouTube though as they may restrict how many times you can change the name!

Absolutely. This has been my issue. Not human enough is as good a description as any. It’s a once only change for me so it needs to be right. I like Rider Skills however it’s just a bit too normal. I need a unique name that stands out. Who I am as opposed to what I do.

Been mulling this over for a while. Obviously my angle being ‘the driver of biking’ if that makes sense?

I have been thinking of a change as well. I have some big changes coming life wise and the Lone Wolfer moniker is more of a joke now. And it isn't like my channel is growing quickly at all so it wouldn't be that big of a deal to rebrand or modify my brand heavily. My fiancée got a bike last year and I ride a ton with her now. And I have been thinking it might be time to start dual vlogging. And the Lone Wolfers doesn't really have a great ring to it for me hahahaha. I don't have any advice for you, just letting you know you're not alone in that boat.

There are some pretty successful duo motovlog channels. It’d be good to watch and it’s cool to have a riding partner!!!!

My channel name has nothing to do with bikes, and my content has nothing to do with hippos or TBH drones, there isn't even a motorbike in my profile pic! Hahaha... so I guess as long as the channel name rolls off the tongue easy enough then it doesn't hugely matter! :)

I think its better to have a more general Youtube name only because you won't limit yourself from creating a variety of videos. Unless you want to focus on a niche then your name can revolve around that niche. Such as naming your channel after your bike. This is what I think though, what do i know lol

Thanks guys. Think we have a plan and a potential new channel name. Not yet set in stone but a leader.

My 2 cents:
Honestly your content will drive the traffic. When people click it is because of your title and thumbnail not because of your channel name. If you want to get personal, add your name to the banner and put your mug up there. If your videos are about safety and improving your riding skills I think you have the perfect angle. Put Rider Skills with a smaller with Neil under it on your banner with a pic of you off to the side.

One of the new channels that is growing a lot is "40 Times Around" He tells everyone his name in the videos and may have it on the banner. He has grown to 30k subs in 2 years because of the content not the channel name.

People will stay if your content is something they want to watch, add a sub button to the video and remind them that if they want to see more etc etc. "Tubebuddy advice not mine but I am practicing this in my new videos"

Instagram Twitter and Facebook are all so different than YouTube. It is so much easier to get followers on those platforms. You get them for a second and they are gone after tapping a button. YouTube you need them to stay for the majority of your video if you want them to sub and come back.

Not trying to sway you either way, it is your channel and you have to be happy with it. Just giving my opinion from what I have tried to learn from the bigger channels
