2wv Said "if They Made The Drift With Gopro Quality, I'd Be All Over That"

What chicken strips?
The quality on the Ghost-4K at 1080 60fps is excellent. As to whether it's as good as similarly-priced (£212) GoPros, I don't know, but if it's good enough then why would motovloggers need more?

Here is some of my footage from Ghost-4K. I haven't picked these for being particularly good, they're just typical clips with no effects applied.

I prefer to chin mount, which makes the GoPro profile better suited for my use. I am Def not a GoPro fanboy though as the Five Black and Session do not work as a motovlog camera if using the latest firmware and GoPro don't seem to care.

Drift cams have their faults too: I have three bricked Ghost-S cams that broke due to a fault with Car-DVR mode. All three were more than twelve months old and so Drift wanted nothing to do with it. There's no paid-for repair service available either.

The Ghost-4K is proving to be reliable though, and the firmware is getting updated frequently.

ngl, the title of this thread confused the hell out of me. haha. But after looking at some of the 4k footage you've taken, i still have my doubts. I would rather see the gopros tech inside the drift casing/body. That was what i was referring to. But nonetheless, the footage was nice.. especially the trackday sighting lap (Y)

So do you think the quality in 1080 is any better than the S or about the same.

Sorry for the confusion 2WV, none of that footage is 4K, it's all 1080.

No worries mate. I still stand by what i said though. I'd happily entertain a 4k camera however, i don't feel people have the screens to accommodate the quality yet. With that said, it wont be long before were on something like 5k or something similar to that. By then, All computer screens sold would be 4k as minimum. So... with that said, when the time comes, 4k cameras would be needed. as 1080 would be the equivalent of 460p or something lol but by no means, its a good idea to jump on things early!

I still prefer GoPro for a ton of reasons. I have been using them for as long as I can remember and currently run a Hero 4 Black and a Hero 5 Black as my setup. I've used Drift, Sony, and other action cams but GoPro is just my favorite.

That said, there is nothing wrong with other cams if that's what you prefer. Viewers care more about content than they do quality as long as your video doesn't look like it was filmed on a potato.

Also 6k cams and 8k cams are already being used quite a bit in the movie industry and by youtubers like Devin Supertramp or Marques Brownlee

I use 1080p 60fps but have used 4k a time or 2.... like you said most people can't even view in 4k but the perk that you do gain from uploading in 4k is that youtube compression gives you a higher bitrate amount for the footage so you get better quality out of their processor.

I think it's the protunes app that gives GoPro it's a slight advantage over Drift cams. If you get into color correcting or grading, then it you footage can look just as good. I like the versatility of my Ghost S vs. a GoPro. I don't really need 4K quality as there aren't many venues for showcasing it, but I like the idea of its stabilization feature and dual mics.

Matt, how's the Ghost 4K sound quality for you?

Hmmm, I hadn't considered that live audio needed to be good quality, I figured that as long as people can hear what I say (and also what Kitty is saying while coming through the Sena 20S speaker) and there's a bit of ambient exhaust note, that's a win.

Thanks. I'm looking for comparisons between it's dual mic and other set ups. I just purchased TEC.Bean 4K action cam. It was pretty cheap -- $47. I want to try some 4K shooting without having to pay a lot for it. Still want a Ghost 4K though, but maybe next year.
