Yeah couldn't buy a bike behind my mothers back. I couldn't even go for lessons behind her back. She only gave in when we done a deal. I get my Diabetes under control then I can get lessons :D

I've applied to college to do bike mechanics so may try for a non-runner and 'practice' repairing it.

A good way to start...and +1 on the respect bit too.

Thanks :)

Just a wee update on things. Decided to stick to the restricted licence, after 2 years I can ride bigger bikes so gives me a chance to pay off my car and move out :) Will be going to practice my Mod 1 2 weeks today yay! So hopefully wont be to long till I get my licence. Until I get my own bike I'll just have to play with the ones in college haha. I'll be a master at moving them around by the time I sit my Mod 1 haha!

Sounds like a plan mate.

I passed my DAS last Tuesday, and I've still got the 125 (oh, for some money!) but it has to be said that a large proportion of bikers I know recomend a 125 to start. If I were you I'd go for a 125 or a 250 or something when you pass, as your need to get used to riding day in day out without an instructor there. So glad I went through the 125 route, mainly because it's cheaper at first, but also because I can almost guarentee I'd have crashed by now on anything quicker! Even 33bhp is enough to turn what would be a little whoopsie with 11bhp into a crash!

Not trying to wee on your popcorn mate, just talking from (limited) experience!

Whatever you do, be careful mate, and don't annoy your parents unnecessarily :P

my DRZ400 is restricted and i still managed to hit 100mph on the Isle of Man. i liked learning to ride the roads on a 125 before having more power plus its quite easy to sort out height issues when looking for new bikes.

I always believe to start small and work up (learn to walk before you run kinda thing). Just seems like the next few years are going to drag in but when I was talking to my mum today about the slow control she said I need to do it right because I can't wobble all over the place while filtering so maybe she's coming round to the idea. Fingers crossed.

Glad to see I'm not alone in this way of thinking :D

+1 imo its just stupid to go from a 50 to a 750 (I know people who have) you might aswell just throw your life away!

But that's just my opinion

Cheers. Bought it this morning so should get it tomorrow. And if it stops snowing I might be able to get it up the hill to my house lol.
