1080 or 2.7k?

Hi All,
I usually record in 1080p Superview 60FPS, but was thinking of experimenting with 2.7k 16:9 60FPS instead to see if the image is clearer, sharper and better quality.
anyone else had experience with this? what are your thoughts?

I like Superview but have found it sometimes recording the top of my jacket if I look down and I'm not keen on that.
 
I say always try to record as high as possible and fix it later in post if you need to.

Remember superview only adds to the height. The width is the same as the wide setting, it just stretches it to make it appear wider. That said I kinda like super view as well.
 
I use Superview, and also record and post in 2.7k 60fps. If I know I am going to be recording a lot of footage I'll record in 1080 mainly to save space on the card, but it also prolongs the battery life too as 2.7k eats the batteries.

If you don't have the option for Superview at 2.7k 60fps then try it and see if you like how it comes out. YouTube gives you a far better data rate if you upload in 2.7k so will really help with the quality your viewers see.

I will try some tests with 2.7k 60fps, unfortunately i cant get superview at 60fps on my camera though.
 
Using my Drift Ghost S I record at 1080p 60fps. Personally I always end watching videos at 1080 as thats what both my phone a pc defaults too
 
It's best to record and upload at the highest settings possible. Youtube will compress it a bit, but the better the source quality, the better the output will be.
 
I tried a test run recording in 2.7k at 60fps but the footage was very stutters when i downloaded it onto my desktop.

Im using a decent memory card so not sure what the issue could be... any ideas?
 
I think that 2.7k or 4k is overkill for most of us and is a bandwidth hog. For sure it lags the editing process.
 
I'm using 2.7k 60fps wide. Superview on the Hero4 black only shoots at 2.7k30fps. I like the quality, but on my endurobike, I lose the bars when I stand up (chin mounted) as the wide setting isn't quite wide enough to pick them up. Annoying, but the quality over 1080p is noceable. Make sure you have the right settings when you upload, and schedule to youtube, then you will get the 1440 option. Can be a bit of a struggle at first.

I found the same thing when playing through windows media player. Use VLC player to play your 2.7k raw when downloaded, and it will flow...

I agree with 4k, but 2.7k is worth it IMHO. I will only shoot 1080 when I'm on a long trip, and space is a premium. I watch most vids on a desktop or laptop, where quality is discernable, but for phones, I agree.

same, I only watch on PC so appreciate the higher definition videos (and more importantly how YouTube nerfs them so much less)! :-)
 
Personally still going with 1080p @ 60fps. I prefer to wait for the next step in the evolution to become standard before moving on. I'm slow like a tortoise.
 
I use 2.7k super view. 60fps. I like the results better than 1080p, but it takes a lot longer to load, and eats up battery life and memory faster.
 
I use 1080 @ 60 mainly because of processing times in my editing software and YT.

How long is it taking you guys to process and upload say a 10 min vid at 2.7k?
 
I have quite a beast of a PC so not too long, my upload speed is quite good too. @R-Rated has been playing around at tricking youtube by filming in 1080/60 but rendering it when editing to 4k which changes the codec youtube uses on the video which gives it a better bitrate. I think he would get the same awesome results rendering the 1080 at 2.7k which would mean he could get them off his laptop and onto YouTube quicker.
YouTubers with high sub counts get the better codec on 1080 which is why the bigger names vids look so good compared to us smaller channels, but the tricking works. I am contemplating trying it too as recording at 2.7k 60fps is a pain regarding battery life.
 
I'll try to do one next time I have content to make a video with.... man my PC is gonna get a work out screen capturing me editing two cameras at 1080 to 2.7k render! :D
