Hardware Build---need Recommendations

Ok folks,

I am going to do it. GOPROSTUDIO is fun and easy but I wanna upgrade my editing. My current laptop can't handle anything more that GOPROSTUDIO.

I have a beautiful 27inch 1080p/HD monitor in my office.

That said, I just need a desktop minus the screen. I plan on either going with Adobe or Sony Vegas. I wanna do some real editing- Intros, multi-Cameras, etc, etc.

My budget: $1,000 USD max

What kind of build do I need? Has anyone heard of "CYBERPOWER PCs"???

It depends if you're asking about the real i7, or the massively gimped laptop i7's.

Desktop no, laptop yes.

Having a good GPU for hardware acceleration will help way more than the jump from desktop i5 to desktop i7.
 
Are you looking to buy a prebuilt computer or build your own? I'm running a home build with an i5 and everything runs + edits really smooth (it's built as a gaming computer, however) and my render times are about 20 - 30 mins for an 8 min video, about an hour for a ~15 min video.

I could go either way at this point.
 
If you're wanting rendering performance, intel is the way to go. I'm a bit of a gamer so I have an amd fx-8350 ( 8 core ) and an nvidia evga GTX 780ti and 16gb's. It's pretty well rounded for what I need.

You can definitely make a great workstation for a $1000, if you need help let me know. I've been building for several years now.

Intel, is better if we're talking about raw power, but they're expensive like you said. It's why I opted not to go for their equivalent. 1-2 Seconds slower is not a big deal to me. I do however need an SSD to keep up with my system now.

And yeah, my GTX 780 TI is super overkill!

no arguments here! If i was strictly video editing, id go AMB 8 core no question. price for performance for the task at hand is unbeatable imo.

However if i was a gamer as well, I would probably go for the intel. truly depends on what you want to do, and your budget.

Thanks. Rendering times are very important. Not really a PC gamer. I have xbox and PS3 for that.
 
Why are render times so important? Just hit it and walk away. I value lag free editing! Stick with an SSD for the OS/programs and a big honking drive for file storage

well, for some people they want it done asap, so they can continue doing other things. and some people deal with incredibly slow render times. Myself, an 8 minute 1080P video takes about 3-3.5 hours to render. and with only having around 4 hours of free time a night i dont want to spend it all waiting for a video to render.
 
I just click and walk away! I'm also hesitant to do anything else when a job is rendering, I feel like it can lead to file corruption or job failure...

yeah, but at the times I have, once I hit render, I cant use my computer anymore. And i definitely wont have time to upload the video till the next day! thats not fun!

Sure, I could hit render and walk away, but when I get done doing everything i do for the day, I want to relax, watch some movies etc. cannot do that when a video is rendering as my computer is so slow.

So saying render times don't matter, well that's a little silly. why not have a computer that you can render video in as little time as possible?
 
If you've got a few vids you want to make in a day maybe? Been on a long ride and making a multi-part video, if it's a 4 hour render, and you want to make 3 parts, that's a day gone.

I need SSD's or a RAID NAS array for my video editing as 4x 1080p60 feeds and 2x HQ audio feeds saturates all my mechanical drives.
