General What's The Hardest Thing About Vlogging To You?

I know those feels... especially when shooting in RAW, and I used to use photoshop to edit.

Yeah man, I keep the raws, a plain high quality jpeg and a logo'd jpeg of every shoot I have ever done, Doesnt take up as much as the video though and I recently just started using a dslr for video too and file sizes are rediculous for even short clips!

Yeah I also record everywhere I ride, primarily for security incase someone cuts me off, or crashes into me and tries to blame it on me...

A really handy tip is, if you catch anything interesting while recording... honk your horn a few times, or actually yell "BEEP BEEP BEEP"!

You can then easily, in your video editing software see the three honks in the audio level as the massive "spikes" hence you know where the interesting thing happened!

This is just a totally random thing pinched off the net, but you catch my drift! The spikes in audio = interesting stuff
This is a really interesting idea. The downside is that everyone on the road in India is already beeping.

Seriously. It is mad.

Yeah I can imagine! Would be chaotic.

Instead of having a spike from honking or yelling once you could just make a sound that gets exponentially louder, hence see the wave get larger and larger, which would be easy to differentiate from a single honk.

Or mabe do the opposite, Cover the mic up for a few secs! haha

Interesting topic. I think that there are 3 things that I really struggle with:

1) Video editing/promotion. I am not very computer savvy and I'm not terribly social. Relying on social networking of any kind to get my vids out there is very exhausting to me. It is the part I like the least about motovlogging, though I DO enjoy very much interacting with subscribers on my channel.

2) I have a hard time keeping a consistent schedule and thinking of topics that are more upbeat. With my personality type, I generally gravitate toward more serious topics. There are times when I feel this is really at odds with the motovlogging "genre", if you will, because most channels are very upbeat and funny. And it gives the impression that all I ever think about is depressing stuff which isn't really true.

3) I really have a hard time reciprocating the support I feel I have been given because I tend not to watch too many motovlogs. When I'm on youtube I tend to watch opinion vlogs of a more serious tone. For whatever reason I find many motovlogs hard to get into especially if there is no real point to them, if they are excessively random, contain no real topic, or parrot the style of popular vloggers. I kind of hate that I feel that way because it makes me seem like a hater and I wish I could be more supportive.

I can appreciate the first one. For me though, it's not exhausting, it's just that I'd feel like I'm whoring myself out. And I'd rather people find me naturally.
I have the same problem with my photography.

I enjoy interacting with people who - at least appear to - enjoy my work, but don't feel comfortable trying to get more people to look at it.

well, pretty much everyone has different methods of creating exposure for their work. Most people at the very least post here on this site, twitter and google+, or just socially networking with meet ups and on forums, etc. But this is hard for someone who isn't very social I think. Other people create exposure by buying subs, paying facebook to promote their pages, monetizing their channel, etc. I don't do anything with money on my channel, but if someone chooses that route...to each their own. Humble as everyone may be, I don't think anyone makes motovlogs and posts them for no one to look at. Nice photography by the way. It would be a shame to keep that to yourself or expect people to stumble onto it "naturally". I'm glad you whored yourself out just enough to show us ;)

I admit, that's part of the reason I'm here - for online socialising. Real life stuff is where it'd get a bit unnerving for me (:
Introverts unite! Except well, that would involve interacting with people!

I actually wondered for a moment how you found it, but then remembered that I actually vlogged about it once [and my vlog is probably easier to find]
But I generally post my stuff on my facebook, and the scene I shoot in is small enough that people interested often get to see it. However, I never think what I do is good enough to warrant me trying to bring attention to it. I see other people in the same places producing work that makes me think mine is a child's crayon drawing in comparison.

Yes. I think most of us (well I do anyway) relate to this feeling. That sort of hyper-self-critical deal. But I try really hard not to compare myself to others. Of course there are going to be a multitude of people putting out better content than me, but that's not the point for me. I don't need to have the best vlog. I just need develop as an artist (yes, I consider vlogging to be a form of art because I'm expressing myself in a visual and auditory medium...maybe it's not art art, but it's art-ish lol). Posting things I think are good at the time and looking back on it later helps me see how I am progressing. Shy people definitely hesitate to expose their creative work to the world for scrutiny, but I think introverts produce some of the most unique and valuable work. So yeah. I just encourage you to put yourself out there! :)

PS: my sister is also a talented hobbyist photographer and she suffers from the same self judgment. And it's a shame because it keeps people from seeing so many nice pictures of native wildlife as a result.

^^ Both of these two posts about introverts. You'll see me riding with one of my friends in a bit of my videos, but he has been my friend for nearly 5 years. If I ever got to the point where people noticed me in public because of my vlogs, I would probably come off as a douche/idiot because I just don't interact well with other people face to face.

But I do think that this will help a lot, putting myself and this part of my life out there.

So I would say the hardest part for me is to actually get out there and advertise myself. Riding is basically a second nature, and editing will come with time.. The social aspect of this whole experience is something that I will struggle with the most.

THISS!!! I'm Not on Facebook at the moment and deffinitly find it hard to put myself out there but I can already see vlogging has mad it a bit easier for me to talk to more people and interact, It's like its practice for talking to people lol
