128gb In Hero 3+, Experiences?

VlotoMog

VlotoMog.com - troller is watching you -_-
I am currently running a 128gb card in my Hero 3+. It seems to record perfectly, and I can shoot more then 10 hours of 1080p @ 60fps.

Any experiences or erroneous operation when using a 128gb?

Should be ok, but I would still backup your files and not wait till the card is full. GoPro's have known to do strange things, better safe than sorry

Always sandisk for me...i have 64 in the phone....32 in 2nd camera and now 128gb in gopro all sandisk ultra or extreme.

The 128gb is holding up nicely. And you are right, never save 6 vlogs on there in the hopes everything will be fine...backups backups backups

You are severely bottle necked on the battery front with tech these days... such a pain having to switch batteries out and have to carry 20 of them to capture a whole day.

Also, how are you getting more than 10 hours of 1080/60fps?

On my 64GB, I get exactly 3 hours at 1080/60fps. That's with Protune activated though.

I was going on Drift. 1080/30 will fill a 32GB card with about 5h of footage, so 1080/60 will fill a 64GB card with 5h... Drift doesn't support 128GB cards sadly.

Are Sandisk Extreme better than Ultra?

They have higher recording rates and they are advised by GoPro on their website. I use two 32gb and never had a problem with them.

Right now, I only got 2 batteries, so a third and fourth battery would be handy. Does anybody have experiences with third party batteries?

I've got the Wasabi power battery pack and it has nearly tripled my battery life. The GoPro bacpac nearly doubles battery life. The Wasabi is half the price of the GoPro bacpac and like I said, it has tripled my battery life. Also the extended cases that come with it are very well made. I can't recommend it highly enough.

It has tripled your battery life? That sounds amazing. I just checked it out and it seems like it just has come available in Germany. I guess I'll give it a go!
I've got one more question, though. Maybe you can answer it. Do you know how much more space the extended case needs in comparison to the standard back door?

It pretty much doubles the width of the camera. But they supply all the extended backdoors you need with the battery pack.
Sorry it took me so long to reply - it's been a pretty busy week. After reading some more reviews, I guess Inwill give it a try. It just sounds to promising. Thanks again for all the information!

Protune munches data far more that the compressed standard 1080p60, for very little benefit outside of proper TV/film production.

Yeah, at the moment I'm using my GoPro as a secondary camera on interview shoots I'm doing for a charity. For those I use the following settings:

2.7K
30fps
ProTune ON
Colour FLAT
Sharpness MEDIUM
Low light OFF

Using ProTune + Flat colour gives me complete control over the image in post-production. I can adjust the colours to properly match those form the Canon, and basically make the image look however I want it to.

But you're right, for vlogging, there's no need to use it.
