General Motovlog #4: 1000cc Is Best (for Me)

Bike Chick
I started out with a CBR929 and continue to ride mostly literbikes to this day. I don't think 1000cc bikes are the best for everyone, but I talk about why I prefer a literbike over everything else.

Absolutely! That's why I own a Ninja 250 for the track and a supermoto KTM65 to ride on kart tracks. I love little bikes! They make you work for speed and you'll pay the price when your form isn't right. Great motorcycles.

But for the street in Texas, I prefer bigger bikes. They look the best, ride the best with some power and weight to them, and have power when you just want to blast around. As I said in the vlog, I don't hate on any sized bikes. Whatever the rider prefers is what matters.

You are braver than me! I'll stick with my half liter lol. I started on a standard bike (250cc) and now I'm just like, man how do sport bike people ride around with that seating position?? that would hurt my neck!

It's more about engaging your core rather than relying on your upper body. I used to not ride properly and my back would hurt so bad, one of the biggest reasons I sold my sport bike and tried supermoto after my back surgery. Then I practiced better riding positions and the pain went away.

Still sport bikes aren't the most comfortable for long distances, but I don't ride for long amounts of time anymore.

See there's the problem right there...I have no core. lol

I enjoy the low end torque of the cruisers, but on that note I have a bad lower back as well.
Went from a 09 Honda Shadow Aero 750, to a 2014 Kawa Ninja 650 and could not be happier. Still has the low end punch which i love for commuting and city cruising, but obviously is capable of speeds higher than I will ever need.
If I do ever "upgrade" I am looking at the Honda CBR600 since it is the lightest of super 600's, or the GSXR600 since it has the lowest seat height.
Honda has the fuel gauge though lol. Spoiled American's right.

Just out of curiosity, what speed do you take your s1000 to? In my country the problem is everyone buys with ego, not skill level. I will never sell my R6 but also want the s1000, although judging by how many litre bikes we inside cut through the twisties i think i will always have more fun on a 600. Nice choice on bike by the way!

Thanks! So far basically I've ridden at street speeds. The weather is meh in the winter and work has been insane with the Holidays so I haven't ridden it much. Not much for twisties around here either.

Get what you like. Owning a motorcycle isn't just about specs, it is also about emotion. I love how the S1000 looks and I've wanted one since they first came out. I don't give two craps about seeing whose dick is bigger, I buy what I want and that happens to be bigger bikes. My old 600 would have out cornered both of my 1000s, but the way I figure it is I'm not going to be knee dragging on the street so who cares. The S1000 is beautiful in my eyes, has a lot of power I can chug around with on the street, and will be excellent on the track when I get a chance to ride it there. Best of all worlds!

I've been on the back of a Suzuki GSX-R1000 twice, so know how it must feel like to pillion on an ICBM, it was with a mate I trust though and he was basically born on a bike.

Biggest I've ridden myself was a BMW F800S on a dealership test ride. Biggest that I've owned is a 1994 CBR400RR and 180km/h is probably the fastest I've ever ridden a bike.

That all said, my next bike will likely (hopefully) be the KTM 1290 Super Duke R. My current ride is a KTM 390 Duke.

Yeah thats why i'm so conflicted about selling my 600...so many people love the power of the 1000 yet say the 600's are more fun then on the flip side you hear the opposite. Anyway, ride safe!

You make some good points. However for me, I like to think more about preferences in engine configuration rather than displacement size. Inline 4 vs. triple vs. V/L twin vs. boxer... Each of those engine configurations at 1000cc will behave so differently. So what are your thoughts on how each engine type makes you feel? That would be a neat topic.

Super Duke! My boyfriend works at a motorcycle dealership and they carry KTMs. He got to ride one of the 1290s on a ride day and had a lot of hooning fun. Badass bikes!

That is a valid point. I kinda touch on that in my RC51 review vlog. All the inline 4s behave so much differently compared to the v-twin in the RC51. My Aprilia SXV550's twin was a different bird all together that's for sure.
