In your opinion, what does everyone think are the best oil, and oil filter for their bike.
For my bike, K5 GSX-R600
Oil- Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10W-40 Full Synthetic
Oil Filter- K&N KN-138

Reasons why, Mobil 1 is an amazing product, smooth clutch, hell even the bike sounds better.
 
The best oil I can get for my bike here where I live is Motul 7100, full synthetic, is the one I use.

About oil filters, I stick with generics. The OEM is ridiculously expensive and doesn't even come with all the required parts to do the change (seal and o-ring). The generic filter comes with both and since the filter bypass valve is part of the bike, not the filter, I trust the generic. It's just paper, nothing critical.

The only difference I noticed when I changed from whatever chocolate the bike comes with to red full-synth is that now it doesn't refuse to start when cold. Just one touch to the starter, a little twist and it's running. No choke.
Before that I needed to coax my bike to start with the choke on, after a few attempts the bike will run then I'll let it warm up for a few minutes. If for any reason the bike got stalled when cold, it won't start again, no matter what you do.
Now, even if it stalls, there is no problem starting it back again.

The sound... It still sounds like a furious blender.
 
im using the 5100... but its because i do about 120km a day and services would kill me if i went full synth
as for filter, Standard yamaha filters only.. no aftermarket, or cheap ones
 
When I serviced the Thundercat I used a Champion filter and Castrol Edge 10W40 Fully Symthetic. Not rode it yet but haven't had any problems while running.

But if you use full synth, add 50% to your service intervals. That's the main point of synth, it lasts longer before breaking down.

The manufacturers just give you their numbers based on what they think you'll probably use. Obviously you HAVE to stick with that when in warranty, but afterwards it's your ball game!

Of course, if your manufacturer specs fully synthetic and 6000 mile intervals, then semi-synth will probably be doing more harm than good as it won't span the gap!

I never even considered mine until 6000 miles. And only changed the filter every other oil change. I like to believe the manufacturers err on the side of caution. Plus I tend to short shift and not often bounce off the rev limiter either!
 
I'm required to change my oil about every month or so, but I ride my to school, work, and everywhere else. So I change it around every 1500 or so.

The oil I currently have in hand is Silkolene Pro 4 SX 15w-50, and throw in an OEM filter.
 
What do you guys think about Amsoil... thats what I have been using. Along with a Fram filter. Am I doing ok or should I make a change?

The bike pace just changed my oil with Amsoil before I put it away for the winter but it's making me a little nervous... not sure if I should change it out at the beginning of sprig or not :confused: .

I'm going to change all my fluids in the spring before I ride. I've herd good things about amsoil which is a full synthetic specially for bikes, but I'm also seeing a lot of posts about Mobile one. How about the Yamaha brand?

That's good to hear :D . I had the Mobil One 4-Stroke Racing Oil (full synthetic) in by bike last year and seemed pretty decent :) . I would have preferred to have it this year, but the way the weather snuck up on me, I wasn't thinking in advance ~_~ .....
 
My user manual just says to use 10w40 designed for motorcycles. It does not specify reg, synthetic or a blend.
