Contour+2 External Mic

Hi guys,

Any Contour+2 owners here, what do you use for external audio?

I've got an external mic, but the damn thing has a cord that's no joke 10 metres long and is a completely pain in the neck to use.

Looking to spend up to $50 for something practical.

Thanks! :)

I just bought a cheapy from ebay. I think it was like $20 with a 1m cord on it. best get one that is mono, unless you want to get a few converters to convert from 3.5mm stereo -> 3.5 mono ->2.5 mono (that's what I had to do anyway).

How is the contour two working out for you? I have the roam1 and use it as my second camera. Primary is a GOPRO? Regarding bikes, I use a cheap one I found for 10$$$. I think the audio sounds decent.

I might have an alternative that will work on all contour cameras, from the Roam1 up through the Roam3! I should know if i am going public with my external mic module by the end of next week. (snaps onto your existing Contour camera, no warranty voided or camera mods needed).

A Zoom portable recorder and any mic will give you far better quality than anything you can plug into the drift.

Not really.
The problem with the sound on the action cameras is dealing with external noise. It will be the same, even when using a Zoom or a Tascam recorder.
Getting any mic on a proper setting will give the best quality, even when using the camera to record audio.

I strongly disagree with you there. The budget ADC's etc in the actions camera's can't compete with a purpose built setup.

I have to agree with Crumpets there, an action camera is no match for a dedicated setup however I feel that when starting out or on a budget using the action cameras to record sound is absolutely fine.

Very true, there's no need for one when starting out if you have a mic port on your action camera.

I just got caught up in how much better my audio got with the Zoom and wanted to share the revelation with everyone :p

A small tube from the built-in mic hole to wherever inside the helmet?
Not quite. I am trying to get my Kickstarter campaign up within the next 2 weeks. During the campaign I will be looking for Beta testers (current CONTOUR users) to evaluate different prototype versions. I will post a link to my facebook page with details when I am ready for that phase.

I'm also having issues trying to get sound going on my new Contour+2... got myself a 3.5mm to 2.5mm converter, but the damn thing is too big (plastic surrounding blocks from plugging in properly)...

Gonna have to go at it with a knife tonight I rekon...
