How Often Do You Think One Might Need A New Helmet?

If there is no fall damage inflicted to a helmet, HOW OFTEN might one need to change out their old helmet? Do the materials in the helmet come apart from one another? I'm not really sure.. I have never crashed in the current helmet that I own, but it's like 5 years old and used daily... Any thoughts on when someone might need to invest in one? Also, I'm not sure if it would be helpful/hurtful to be in the HOT Arizona heat for a lot of the time.

Yeah, time for an upgrade. Or two. Problem with more than one is having to stick velcro on each and switch about your microphone setup

Different manufacturers have different guidelines for helmet lifespan. Shoei helmets are covered by a five year warranty, provided it has been cared for in that time. Cheaper helmets aren't likely to last as long, some as little as two years.
Strong sun and extreme weathers age a helmet quicker though - if I was riding in the Arizona sun I'd probably replace it after ~75% of the recommended lifespan.

Thank you everyone for all the good tips! Sorry I wasn't able to reply sooner!
I guess it's time to get meh'self a new helmet! Awesome!

I have a helmet addiction. Worse than wife's purse addiction. I would say every 2-3 years. Also depends how many miles you are putting on it and overall wear/tear. I have 3 full face for my Ducati and 3 half face for my Victory. I normally sell my old helmets on EBAY or CRAIGSLIST.

Good to hear. That's what I have been hearing lately.. Looks like a new helmet is past due! I probably will only have 1-2 at a time.. I feel like it'd be a hassle to switch my camera, mic, and scalarider intercom system to a different helmet..

Depends on what you lay out up front...

A helmet made of premium materials will fit better, last longer and typically will have many replacement parts to keep it fresh.

They say change the every 4-5 years if you haven't crashed in them.

I have 4 helmets, 1 of which I'm gonna probably sell very soon.

Manufacturers will have a life based on sun exposure etc, other thing to consider with helmets is if they stop fitting. Some of the cheaper ones will have linings that pack down quicker and it may become loose, so keep an eye out for that.

I ride dirtbikes and they say your supposed to get a new one after every crash
There's no way I could afford that with the amount of times I crash lol.
So I just stick with the same helmet and get a new one every 1-2 years or so

Yeah I would be in debt up to my eyes if i bought a new helmet every time i went down off road

I get a new helmet if the padding on the inside starts to wear, or if it gets too beaten up. So generally one ever 2-3years.
