Hello everyone!
A question: What's the best way to do that? There are several ways to go.
Take one from movie that youtube chooses for you.
Make a new one with a screenshot from vid.
Make one with just text with the name of the name of vid.
Make a new one with some text and pic from internet.

And some others that I haven't thought of.

How do u do? Why? What makes you choose that?

I've not got as far as creative names, I screenshot something relevant from the clip, so filtering I'd pick a bit between two cars rather than being at the head of a queue, scenic ride, get the nice lake or whatever in it.

Some overlay text on to a chosen shot.

Depends if you want a theme for your channel or if you want relevant to the vid. The name is next to the thumbnail anyway...

Thanks Lurch. U r totally correct with the name being close to the vid anyway. I just felt it to be kinda dull with my vids almost looking the same in the list.

I have seen some ppl using a beautiful woman for the thumbnail to lure ppl to watch the vid. That feel low hehe

hehe yeah! One day I'll do a vid with a beautiful woman and then do that. But not until have that vid! ;) ...and NO! not that kind of vid! :P

I do a full screen shot (in the video editor) of an interesting part within my video, then Photoshop some relevant text onto it. It seems to me the flashier the thumbnail, the more likely people will be excited and will want to watch it. Thumbnails are all the rage now-a-days anyways :p ~

I take a picture of the video, edit it on lightroom (add contrast and some tweaks), add captions in sony vegas pro 12, extract the shot (with full quality) "et voilà".

I just use photoshop and create a thumb. Background and text not from video. It shows the video title and a recognizable colored thumbnail so people can easily spot the difference between a review or a normal vlog or a special vlog. I think it helps the user make sense of your upcoming hundreds of videos...

I take a screenshot and overlay the text with Photoshop. I used to select from the ones YouTube provides, but getting a good thumb out the box is rare. Besides, you want to show what the video is about right off the bat. A simple title with the YouTube provided thumb is OK, but a simple title with a user created thumb is better! And embedded videos will show your chosen thumb. In my case you'll see the title no matter what!

I'm new and don't know what I'm doing, BUT...

I am more inclined to watch a video if it has a flashy thumbnail, so if you want my views, you're more likely to get it with something creative and mostly pertaining to the video.
If the thumb has girls in bikini's but the video doesn't, I'm not gonna be mad. If you use the same thumb on ALL your videos, or just change the title, I will NOT be watching your channel.

I take a print screen from the rendered vid and then paste it into photoshop to overlay text. I do believe taking a little time to make thumbnails attracts more views...I HATE when i get a thumb that attracts me to click without the footage in the clip...

I usually use a still image of my choice from the video and then add text using Picmonkey.com - it's free :)

I normally just screenshot a part of the video which I think best relates to the video but also is catchy. Then I'll paste it onto photoshop and add a gradient overlay focusing the brightest light on the part of the picture which I want you to focus on. Then an overlay of text similar but not exactly the title (most cases).

I just pick an interesting thumbnail directly from my video.

I am trying to resist adding text to it, but I think I may need to start doing that.
