Best Mics?

What mics do you guys use and get good results? I just ordered a Sony ECMCS3 off amazon. I have another but I think the Sony will be better, Im hoping that because the actual mics are off to the side instead of facing directly towards my mouth it will cut down on breathing sound. This combine with a homemade dead cat im hoping will yield some good results!

A lot of people say the drift mics are really good and don't pick up that much wind noise. I've never had one so I cant say from experience tho...

i need to choose a mic for my new hero 3+ and also wondering which will be a good cheaper mic. Problem with cheapies is how long do they last?

Well I have two mics to test with the hero 3+ and I will have videos on them up soon we can see which gives better quality

Sony are great for engine sounds with a thick dead cat but I found with talking they don't sound right

I've tried loads of mics and always go back to the drift mic

Got my mic today, got it all mounted, tested on computer sounds good, still waiting on my GD gopro mic cord! GAH! Anyone try mounting in this location?

If that silver thing on top is your microphone, it's a tricky location, it'll catch a bunch of wind noise if your shield is not sealed and it'll be completely moody about the position of your visor. It's essentially catching your voice bouncing in the visor and that will sound different if you have it open, closed or any position between.
If you wanna go stereo, try to find or make a mic that can be put separated under each cheek-pad. Stereo mics are not that practical in motovlogging because of how problematic they can be to set up right.

I have that exact position! ... And yes ... While visor is fully down and sealed its great ... Crack it a notch while on the move and it's hideous wind noise!

Open the visor while standing still and depending on how open the voice fades really quick ....

But ... Most of my vlogging is on the move with visor down, cos I hate extra wind in the eyes ... So I put up with the fade/open situ ...

Going to try getting a windsock for moving/visor cracked setup ...

There's always gonna be a little trade off with any mic and position I reckon!

Thanks for the tips, I guess we will see when I can do some real world tests!

Nice I am gunna try some testing and ill have some vids, was planing on trying to craft a small dead cat / wind screen for it, I generally don't ride with my visor open anyway.

my drift mic picks up ALOT of wind noise..its for the 1080p
Use a foam cover (or dead cat) like this one.

Try repositioning the mic inside your helmet, under a cheekpad works best to avoid outside noise but it can drown your voice if it's too far away from your mouth.
As far as my testing went, you cannot reliably vlog past 90km/h, the wind noise is unavoidable.

This is a sexy picture. Someone should make foam/mic porn.
Nevermind. Bad idea. Disregard that.

Oh and as for my mic, I used an old 2cm long desktop mic that my dad had lying around. Works like a charm. I also put some sponge over it like the above picture.
