Damn annoying issue I'm having with a Ghost-S

Hey guys,

I'm wondering if others with the same camera are having similar issues. I know it was a problem on the old Ghost but was fixed in firmware and I have found no mention of it with the Ghost-S.

The problem is where, after about a month of no issues, the camera declares "low speed card" then promptly craps itself. I can turn it off but not on again until I perform a battery pull. Post battery pull, it will boot and record for about 10s before doing it again.

Very annoying with how awkward it is to get the battery case open on this camera. The only thing that has fixed it for me is reloading the firmware. (I'm using the latest 1.0.0.0 version). After which point it seems to sort itself out.

I haven't (yet) contacted drift about it. I half created a ticket both times it has happened but before I finish writing it up, its fixed and I want to go ride. Just wondered if anybody else is having issues or if perhaps I've managed to get a crappy item?

For info, the card is a SanDisk Ultra Class10 32GB

Any ideas?

(Before anyone says it, I'm not keen on going over to the GoPro purely because of the PITA it is to mount.)

Pretty common for the Ghost cameras S and non S to have a hissy fit with SD cards.I found reinstalling the firmware seemed to have worked.Always.. and i mean ALLWAYS contact Drift and lodge a ticket.

Thanks for the response. It seems like the firmware trick is the way to sort things temporarily. Would be seriously annoying if it happened way away from home. I might start carrying a spare sd card with the firmware on it just in case.

I'll raise a ticket at work tomorrow (may as well be paid for it). Are their support people any good?

That issue is pretty common on my JVC camera, it'll declare low-speed card even when working on the internal flash. Format the card and it's good to go. Don't format it on a PC or anywhere else and don't swap cards between different cameras. If you do, format the card in the camera you want to use it, even if the card is empty.

Ticket raised, I hope they dont just say "defective - return it". I'v got videos to make people!

The card was formatted on the camera as I'd heard of that causing problems. Currently only have the one cam so switching cards wont be a problem for a while

Have you ever tried formatting your memory card not in camera but through windows, do the slow format and wipe it clean. I have had issues with memory cards corrupting data before, doing a clean format got them working again. Just an thought!

I did but in OSX, my windows machine seems to have lost the ability to format disks...long story and for another forum. Didnt help, it seems these cameras preferr it to be done their way with the in built functions.

Depending on what version of windows your using I found that you have to do it through a card reader not the camera plugged in through usb or it will not give you the option to format the card like a disk.

Yeah it was using the MicroSD->SD adapter that came with the card.

It's the best to format in the camera but if you don't want to do that, don't use anything but this tool to format SD cards on a PC.

If you have time to spare, do a FULL OVERWRITE format, that will overwrite all blocks on the card and it'll be as good as new. If you choose format adjustment, the program will mark any unreadable/broken sector on the card as defective and the storage capacity will decrease. That is of course, preferable to avoid corrupt files on the card.
