New vlogger, I need some suggestions on editing. I am quite horrible and know nothing about editing, so any links or suggestions on editing programs would be amazing. Btw I love hams introduction edits, just a side note ! Thanks all!

Vegas is probably the most simple to use, and there are MANY tutorials online!

I learned how to use it myself, very very veryyyyyyy simple once you know where the basic buttons are

Adobe premiere. I prefer it over Vegas after having lots of buggs and glitches with exporting and editing my videos.

we are using Sony Vegas...taught myself how to use it! Trying to teach Kerryann how, but she isn't too enthusiastic...she just wants to film and then hand over the footage to me for editing...like i don't have enough on my plate already! LOL!

If you're new to editing I would lean towards Sony Vegas. It's a little bit easier to work with, more "user friendly". I've been using it for about 3 years now and just recently "upgraded" to Adobe Premiere Pro. Glad I started with Vegas, I feel I was able to grasp Premiere better having worked with Vegas. Hoped that helped :D

Small thread jack-
What about editing programs for Linux? I lost my Premiere Pro that I liked when i had to ditch the windows.
I am starting to learn OpenShot, but does anyone know anything better?

only problem is software like this is soo expensive, essentially on a tight student budget like me

Quick Google search shows a bunch of stuff I mainly just researched online

http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2397215,00.asp

That link above gives a good review and includes prices that are in various ranges so hopefully it fits your budget. Don't forget about windows movie maker and iMovie if your on a mac its normally included in your os and a great starting point.

You can also search for some free open source stuff but a lot of that requires some learning and would take a little more time buy hey its free just gotta put a little more effort in creating videos.

Hope it helps!

Premiere elements 12 is very simple and now has motion tracking.

Corel is cheap and the behind it is great but its slow and hell.

I used Corel, Adobe, Movie Maker, Movie maker live and Sony. Sticked with Adobe for a full editor and Live Movie maker for really quick and dirty edits that don't require more than one audio or video track.
Sony Vegas is buggy, corel video studio keeps crashing for no reason and it's not precise.
Premiere has it's few bugs but it doesn't crash. When you notice the editor acting weird after a few hours, a restart fixes it.

If you're not doing super complicated things, try with Windows Live Movie Maker. It's not the movie maker that comes with WinME and up. It's one you download (for free) with Windows Live Mail and Writer.

I started with iMovie when first editing videos which made Final Cut Pro less daunting. Full featured editing software is great but can be a hinderance when your trying to teach yourself the basics.

I agree with Vegas. It is very user friendly. I don't know what version everyone is running, but Vegas Pro 12 hasn't given me a single problem. You can do a basic video with almost any software, but for a quality video you are going to need a quality program, or be an expert at editing. There are plenty of tutorials online for Vegas, and I'm sure you can go to your local book store and find a book on Vegas.

for PC, Vegas Pro, or Adobe Premiere Pro

for mac, Imovie, or FCPX or FCP9.

i use FCPX on mac, prior to that i had vegas pro on Pc.

Am I the only one who likes iMovie?

It's a decent little program. Really simple to use and can create some decent looking vids without masses of editing know-how. And its FREE so that can't be bad!

It's just somewhat limited if you want to do slightly more complex stuff, which is why I use Final Cut Pro X, even tho I'm probably only using about 5% of the capabilities of it!
