Is there such a thing as a cheap beginner setup?

For mounts and stuff like that, the cheap stuff is most of the time more then enough.
So you can save tons on those.

For cheaper camera's, older Gopro's 4 or 5 already have been mentioned.
The Firefly 8S is also quite cheap, and i still use it regularly.
The new X (4k) is already quite a bit more expensive, but could give you a good enough camera for a few years.

That’s the cam I use. But I order DJI stuff straight from DJI. Fast shipping and no duty to me here in Canada. Be sure to get the cynova mic adapter. And you may find my vids on YouTube on how to record helmet audio.

Compared to the DJI osmo action the GP10 is an expensive, larger cam with some critical flaws. I’d be pissed if my big dollar GoPro kept shutting down. The DJI cam is my go to action cam. Only time I use one of my old GoPros is when there a chance I might lose it, lol.

I am not here to argue.

I am genuinely curious what the critical flaws on the GP10 are.

Having spent over 10 hours recording with it - 12 now that I've done a full battery recording test, the only issue I've had is that I hit stop/start/stop/start recording on my Remote and the 10 just stopped recording. I think it's a fantastic - and yes, expensive - action camera, and I think it's worlds better than the 9 as far as reliability and responsiveness. As someone who records mainly in 1080/30, I probably won't see an overheating issue unless I park that bad boy in the sun and let it sit and record for a while.

Shutting down at 20 minutes even recoding 2.7k 60. The worst thing a camera can do is not capture your footage.

I will also recommend you record and upload in better resolution. It would make your vids more discoverable on more platforms.

I don't like how GoPro offers discounts on it's new cameras for it's subscription plan. I don't want a subscription plan, I just want to buy a product at a good price and use it. For this reason alone I'd consider the DJI Action versus a new GoPro if I ever go to buy a new camera. I absolutely love my DJI Mini 2 drone so DJI has good will on my end.

I went with the GoPro subscription for the discount on accessories as well as the camera. Once it's up I won't renew it more than likely. I just tried to get enough stuff at discount to justify the sub price.

Yeah, the camera price should be the camera price and that's it. But like @Skipshift said, the discount on accessories is nice, and I don't plan on renewing. I literally only use it for the discounts, not the cloud storage or anything else. I think every time you buy a camera, it adds to your subscription though, so at this point I have a few years before any renewal [if my theory is correct].

This won’t bother most, but my only issue with the DJI cam is when using the audio adapter it’s mono. Unlike the GoPro that you can have stereo inputs. For example, helmet mic on one channel, headset on another. I’m looking at mini mixers for the DJI. Otherwise I’m back to running multiple cameras when I’m not solo vlogging. If not concerned with group ride audio, this is a non issue. There are a few ways to record headset audio, my project is trying to get the best audio.

I hope so. There are a few different images of pre production cam online, I’m looking forward to see the real thing.

I still think my old GoPro Hero 6 Black Footage looks great. These days you can find a used one for cheap. Get a second hand mic mod and a decent second hand mic, done.

I'm using a cheap SQ12 Mini Camera and earphones for mic and dishwashing sponge for deadcat. :D
SQ12 is worth 600php or 10 something dollars
cheap earphones will do, do the audio recording using your phone
Dishwashing sponge, the foam one. (idk if there's any other type of dishwashing sponge. :D)

that's my setup. although the quality will be not the best, but it will do it's job.
