GoPro Battery life - according to GoPro.

One thing I've done is buy a small Anker power bank, which easily fits in my inside jacket pocket, and run a charging cable directly to the GoPro. Much easier than changing batteries. A battery has 1720 mAh, whilst the Anker powerbank has 10,000 mAh. So basically you're looking at 5-6x charges.

is that on the Hero 9? and do you leave the GoPro battery in, or do you remove it?

Battery life is why I film with my GoPros in 1080p/60fps instead of 2.7k, I just get more filming time at the lower resolution.

Maybe by the time we have the Hero 20 we'll have much improved battery life!
Maybe by the time we are at Hero 20 we will also have a camera that does not require a huge box to plug in a purple panda microphone.

Does the GoPro run hot after a couple hours of being plugged into the the battery bank while filming?

The Hero20 will 14k and smell-o-vision:p
But audio will be limited to the microphones from the 1920's
