Because of the ambient noise from my mic setup (I use an Akaso Brave 6 Plus camera with the Akaso mic in a modular helmet) I tried recording the audio separate with my Cardo Freecom2+ and iPhone. Voice audio is better with the latter setup, but no ambient noise at all. If I used that by itself, it doesn't seem right. Maybe I should skip the Akaso mic and use the camera's built in for ambient and the cardo setup for voice? Just wondering if anyone else has tried a BT setup.
 
If you are using more than one camera and the other one has an exterior mic, synch your cameras together, and use the secondary camera to record the ambient noises. You may have to lower the volume, or filter out wind noises, but it could serve as an ambient background tone for your finished motovlog.

Actually my motovlog for next Sunday is about me testing a new audio setup where I compare a lav mic (mounted under my chin recorded by my phone) to the audio I normally use from my Hero 8 internal mic.

Spoiler: the lav mic sound was great while sitting still but it got increasingly bad with speed due to wind noise. I even had a furry deadcat over it too, didn't seem to help when at speed. I'm sticking with my Hero 8 audio for now but I may experiment with a few other things just for the science of it!
 
Welcome to the bane of all motovloggers: audio.

I have done multiple tests on my channel, all in order to get better audio and share my results with people doing non-standard things, like motovlogging with a half helmet.

If you have a fully-faired bike and a half helmet, you CAN get good audio, it's just harder.

For your setup, I'd recommend putting a lav mic underneath your seat or somewhere else out of the wind, and recording your BT audio for voice, then mix them in post.

Mengy's results are not typical. I would love to use his setup, but I'm afraid I'd burn the camera with my cigar while recording ;) I'll stick to my current setup and some audio work in post :D

They do. It's in the fine print. I do not, however, promote or advocate smoking, I just do it. I've seen a lot of big vloggers, like Shadetree Surgeon, who show smoking in almost all their videos, along with drinking. I don't mention it usually. I figured, if the big ones can get away with showing it, even if they don't talk about it, it's something YT let you get away with.

I think the bigger issue for YT is smoking-related channels, where they review nicotine-related products. Those get demonetized. If it's an issue if/when I hit 1k/4k subs/watch time, then I'll cross that bridge.

Besides, being the Harley-riding, cigar-smoking, self-deprecating humorist on YT seems to be working pretty well for me, so if YT demonetizes me, I'm sure my viewers will follow me to OnlyFans, right?

I think the large windshield on my Goldwing helps my audio setup quite a bit. Although it worked well on the Indian Challenger too. And it works almost just as good when I put my windshield down all the way.

I need to test ride a naked bike or something without a windshield to see what kind of audio quality my setup would get then.
 
Yes yes, let the testing flow through you!

FWIW, not sure if you saw one of my latest vids... I built a cardboard windshield for my mic, and it helped a little bit and isn't too visible on cam :D Still on that quest for full-face audio quality with a half helmet :D

No second camera yet. In the past, I used an iPhone, but the OIS didn't like it.

Yep. There was a big to-do a few years back when YT cracked down [haha?] on the smoking-related channels. I tried riding around and recording while not smoking a cigar, but I just enjoy combining the two so much that pretty much all my on-bike recordings start out with me puffing away on a stogie, algorithm be damned. I tend to get thoughts here and there while I ride, and I don't want to hide who I am. If it gets me demonetized [after I'm monetized, if/when that happens], then so be it. I'm not telling anyone to go out and smoke, and rarely do I even mention it [only as of late].

It's just something that is there in the background. I also find it easier to string together words when I take a puff or two off my cigar and gather my thoughts, so I end up with less edits, and there's a nifty transition when I either bring the cigar up to my mouth or take it down to talk.

I wonder if there's a thing on drinking? I haven't smoked a cigar since 2003. I used to like Arturo Fuente's in churchill size. I still drink single malt though.
 
Its amazing how much noise the Bluetooth Communicators eliminate but when it comes to Motovloggings - the missing ambient noise sounds strange (at least to me anyway).

It would be interesting to see someone combine both BT Audio with a secondary mic for ambient noise.

On a side note - I don't recall seeing Advertisements on Whiskey Tribe (their videos do contain Paid Promotions though). I suppose Alcohol and Tobacco are in the same Demonetized boat.
 
If drinking is part of the video and not the focus of it, it's probably OK. Hence why Whiskey Tribe has paid promotions - ie, sponsorships.

Funny about BT communicators... that was my first route, and it sucked. The SENA I have includes all the ambient noise in the recording, but not in the phone calls I was making... which is odd, but unusable. Hence why I have a lapel mic plugged into my GoPro and do some post-production audio clean-up.

I feel fortunate that my audio isn't all that bad especially with it just coming out of the camera and not using any seperate recorder. Though the wind noise is a bit hit or miss depending on my speed ususally 50ish I can record fine any higher and I have to tweak it in the editor. Luckily I have some wind deflectors going on the bike that will help out the wind noise a bit.

On my latest stuff, I don't *have* to edit the audio in post, but to keep consistent, I do. Luckily it's mostly set-and-forget. I literally apply Alex Audio Butler to the whole video, add NR audio effect to the voice track, select "learn", and play through. When it's done, I render, and my audio comes out like you hear on my channel. #BehindTheScenes #MagicRevealed
