I try and remove them where I can, but I say so many... it gets difficult, so just do the best I can be bothered with :)

I speak regularly for my work so that part seems to come rather naturally. I will say that we are our own worst critics. I think there is a good line between polished and real. We are after all riding and speaking and riding demands full attention so some stuttering/stammering or circling back to topic is okay for sure. If I do mess up, I generally stop talking for a good 15-20 seconds and just start over. I find my edits are easier this way and I don’t feel like I keep messing up as opposed to reshooting immediately until I “get it”

I really like editing especially if I have good footage. Making the vids themselves is the hobby for me rather than the vlogging bit.
DaVinci Resolve is very good especially considering its free.
I'm not disappointed with the final vids but would like more footage maybe from someone else on the ride to edit in.
Wow, I love making videos, but editing them for me can be a tough. My equipment is slow, and when the audio is bad I just feel like mix taping over the whole thing or just throwing out the footage entirely. Wish we lived close by to each other we could collab.

I am also a over user of filler words.

I tend to find that I can set a camera rolling and talk the subject over and over. I can do it off camera, but as soon as the camera is on I am different and feel nervous. If I talk the subject over and over I start to relax. Start to get more natural, although sometimes I find that I prefer part of how I said it in once take, and the end of another which is where the hours of editing comes in!!! Although, sometimes it doesnt match as smoothly as I'd like!

I do try to take out as many umms and errrs in editing as I can. Does everyone else leave them in or just try not to say them, or do they take them out in editing?
I just leave them in, haha. But maybe in the future I will try and edit them out. Leaving them in, makes me want to try and not use them next time, but I am sure that is a horrible strategy. Editing them out might be challenging could create some better content!

hey guys so my latest video went live this morning... during filming and editing I was so happy and felt it was my best yet but watching again last night before posting all I could think was " could have been better "

Does this happen to you ??

always! keep editing until you're happy with it

my rule of thumb for quality is if I would want to watch it again myself, it's good

Sorry guys i stated this thread but then went quite.

Everything kinda went on hold for last few weeks, guess life just got on top of me a bit, i did film some clips but heart wasn't in it and I really didn't like the footage so scarped it. I do have a couple of posts worth of raw footage in stock but when i started editing it it was just like the filming, no heart. Rather than put out something I wasn't happy with i decided to take a step back, clear my head and pick it up again.

Everything is feeling a bit more positive now so hopefully I will be back in the editing chair again soon and we can pick up were we left off

Most of the time I'm not disappointed with the whole video, but there are always parts I'm disappointed in. I also feel I use too many filler words, and I have been making a conscious effort to not use them.

Maybe edit the disappointed parts out and re-upload?

Yep, sometimes if I am talking to the camera I remove so many fillers that I end up looking like I am jumping all over the place :D:D:D

One of the reasons why i redo some sentences in totallity ;)
That in combination with leaving 1 or 2 in when it fits the flow of the sentence better ;)

If I do mess up, I generally stop talking for a good 15-20 seconds and just start over. I find my edits are easier this way
This is what i try most of the time as well :)
If you can take the time to redo a bit of it, it can make the video so much better at the end.

I tend to watch the renderd product the next day.
Helps to spot any errors that might have slipt in and that you could have missed in your hourslong editing proces.
And it also gives you the best feel for the flow of the video.

Often it is good and ready to be uploaded.
Sometimes it is back to the editing board and change something that could be better.
I do feel that watching your content back with a break gives the best result for sure.

I am ultra guilty of using the filler word 'like'. I sometimes feel I use it subconsciously too. I found this great and simple list of other transition words (that are common but overlooked sometimes) that could be used instead of 'like'.

Here is an excerpt:

not only ... but also

as a matter of fact

in addition

coupled with

in the same fashion / way

first, second, third

in the light of

not to mention

to say nothing of

equally important

by the same token

I have also noticed when you slow down your speech it can help pounce on the use of unneeded filler words.

Can you write a sentence using "like" and the alternative to show what you mean? As I "like" bananas / I "not only, but also" bananas doesn't make sense? :D

Lol, true true it does not work in every scenario. I like banans is a valid use of the word 'like'.

Example:

Bad Sentence
So I was at the store the other day, and like this guy walked up to me, and like, he wanted to buy my bag of toilet paper, and I was like no.

Better Sentence
So I was at the store the other day, and a guy walked up to me and asked to buy my bag of toilet paper, in light of his nice gesture, I kindly said no.

I was trying to think of other examples, but it seems just deleting the word "like' entirely helps. Thanks for calling me out on that post HippoDrone! : )

Soz, wasn't meant as to call you out, more as to emphasise your point, if we can see where we go wrong, we can try to correct which will help our editing as we'll not be umming and arring so much :) My example was a bad example on purpose as it allowed you to show :)

Almost finished an edit today, but decided i wanted to improve.
So will record an extra bit tomorrow.
With this video that is easy and quickly done. But that isn't always possible sadly enough.

Thanks, and its like Murphys law so far. EVERYTIME battery dies, or camera breaks, or times i have the camera turned off waiting for the next ‘good trail‘ something happens that I wish i had on film. It’s seriously almost EVERY time.
