Buongiorno Ragazzi!

So, I'm planning on changing my helmet from my current GT-Air2 to AGV's K5-S and getting the mount to slap a gopro on the chin (Ideally Gopro 8)
My concern is that I really want and kind of need to invest in a Cardo System (Packtalk Slim) and if possible, record audio for the gopro without needing a second microphone or additional equiptment strapped to my nogging.

Here are some of the things I'm planning

Helmet: AGV K5's
Mount: https://www.shapeways.com/product/X5CCH5E8L/gopro-chin-mount-agv-k5-and-k3-sv
Camera: GoPro Hero 8 Black (With Media Mod if needed)
Comms: Cardo Packtalk Slim

Now, if I can split my cardo mic signal so half goes to the gopro and half to the cardo, it would be ideal! but has it been done and does it work well?

I really don't want to have to be strapping multiple things to my helmet, because I also want to be able to remove the camera on occassions if I don't need it there.

Appreciate any advice on this, you lot are the experts! I tried google and searching forums but I'm just getting more confused.
If anyone is running this setup, I'd love to see how you've done it.

Thanks!

I have a similar mount on my Shoei NXR frome Shapeways.
The GoPro 8 is IMO a much better camera then the 7 but the Media Mod does make it quite large. I have managed to get the GoPro Hero 5/6/7 mic adapter to work with the 8 off bike, but it failed on bike so I don't know what went wrong there, but it is an option if you can figure it out and the old mic adapter is a wedge cheaper then the Media Mod... and works better in the rain too.
I have a Sena 30k, but no idea how to get the audio to record. Maybe instead of fitting a mic to the GoPro, you could just find a way to record the audio on the Cardo? Can you link it by Bluetooth to your phone, and then record the audio on the phone? that would mean the GoPro could remain waterproof too!

Can you use an external recorder? GoPro adaptors are garbage, no adaptor is a much cleaner way to run one. Lapel mics are usually mono so fairly easy to run two - You run them as seperate channels and then mix them in post as required. No idea if it's the same as Cardo stuff but I know Sena mics are mono.

Both good thoughts, with an external recorder I'm concerned about having to fuss about with cables and keep it on me during a ride. As I'm in Italy, it get's quite hot, so I don't have much in the way of pockets. I also can't expect a wireless solution to be unreliable or high quality.

Any recommendations on a very small/portable one that's good quality?

Otherwise the Hero4 adapter with a small lapel mic clipped under the helmet might work, but it also looks a bit bulky.

Why is there no good solution to this, damn GoPro!

I think people recommend the TASCAM models, i've never used one though.

Mine is an Olympus DM550, about the size of a small chocolate bar, but also it's 10 years old so probably not the best...

That's awesome, thanks! They look much bigger than that.

Going back to the GoPro audio adapter and it's bulky look, has anyone tried using a non official one, such as this: MicroUsb to 3.5mm

I ask because It looks the ideal solution to me and doesn't add extra bulk to the helmet, However! If GoPro is an evil corporation (judging by their accessories prices, I'd say so) I'd imagine they've found a way to stop non official items like this from working. Apple style.

Anyone got experience with it?

Well, if the mic from the Cardo fits in a Gopro adapter you can switch them around.
But then you only have 1 working at a time, so it is either Gopro mic or Cardo mic.

Other option would be, if it is possible with a Cardo mic, to split the wires. If it isn't possible, you might end up destroying it.

Not quite sure if a audio splitter would work, might mean you have to run different converters and a splitter, which might make it a bigger package then you want.

Honestly, cleanest setup would be to use two mic's

That's my thought, I've decided it is better two mics aslong as I can avoid that bulky GoPro adapter with something like Ive shown in the link above. If this is the case. I know what I need to do!

Perhaps have two mics in your helmet, left and right, one for the GoPro, and one for the intercom - and position one of the earpieces behind your camera mic and that should capture the audio for your companion.

GoPro have encrypted the audio so aftermarket mic adaptors won't work

Surely there are aftermarket mic adaptors that will work nowadays.
Still a shitty markettruc.

Is that even legal in presentday EU?
As they passed a bill that all phoneadapters have to be the same, and iphone no longer can have a own system?

Think thats a good option Pooley! However, worst case scenario I just need my own voice with minimal bulk in terms of cabling and adaptors.

This was my thought, but as they are not phone, who knows, maybes that's a loophole they can get through. I'm unsure if the law was for all devices.

An evil trick for evil businesses, however. It will only cost a few euros to try. I don't need the extra bulk of GoPro's solution by having a USB port on it also, just the damn 3.5mm is all I need.

For a company that's making smaller and smaller cameras, why do they think we all need bulky add ons?

Been looking into this recently,I have a p20 pro phone and a cheap freedcomm bluetooth comms. When I started looking into vlogging I wanted my blutooth comm to act as a mic and record the audio on my phone. Huawei have a rep for not accepting external mics wired or bluetooth.

The workaround I found was a video from a You Tuber called Dark Rider ( How to record Sena Bluetooth audio on GoPro) sorry cant post links yet ... he downloaded an app called cinema fv5 in his video he shows how to play with the settings so it records bluetooth audio. It worked for me but i need to play with mic placement to clean up sound

Its the holy grail  capturing audio whilst using comms. Lets me honest, considering how much these units cost (Cardo and GoPros) its actually a real insult to the consumer that its such a complete faff getting this to work. Considering the money we are paying, they should work without issue!

My Current set up is as follows:

Normal Cardo mic in helmet connected to Cardo
Second GoPro mic in helmet, which I can reposition depending on situation, If I am solo its by my mouth. If I am on comms and want to capture the conversation, I reposition it to the Cardo earpiece - Because - The Cardo only feeds back your own voice into your earpiece IF you are connected to another rider.

I am seriously considering a TASCAM as I have new exhausts now and I also want to line in to capture quality exhaust notes, as well as comms and solo voice. So, it might be a case of recording all separately and sorting in editing, but I am also aware that I will need to upgrade my current free editing program to a more robust one that lets me work with multiple audio sources, which is a limitation in the current program.

I will have to try putting my mic near the speaker. I have been trying to figure out how to record conversation‘s. We have cardo’s as well and want to get Mrs Blackfish on some of the vlogs as well but so far have not found a way to do it. I have thought about the Tascam which would be great if it had dual mic inputs but I m not sure it does?

If you check out my Oxfordshire ride video you can see it has sometimes good and sometimes bad results. It starts off great, yours able to hear the other riders but the mic shifts and drops and then you can only hear me. Most of the time my rides with Andras (Friday ride videos) you can hear him clearly

Best way to record a dual vlog is old school with a dedicated mic in the other person's helmet with its own recording device and all mics/cameras sinked with a clap in front of camera/s and close to mics. And make sure the speakers are at a minimum volume as they can be caught by the mics sometimes.

I know people have been able to capture Sena audio, but there are so many variables with that and you have to have multiple apps running on your phone to sync that all up.

Hello everyone. I thought I would start to vlog my rides as they are so excellent, everyone needs to see them.

Also wanted to get a comms device so OBVIOUSLY thought I could get a one size option. Clearly I was wrong. . . . .

The cleanest way that I have found so far is to buy Sena Comms, Go Pro 3/4 and a Sena backpack for Go Pro. I don't see Cardo having a backpack for Go Pro and every other direction is the dual mic scenario or a splitter on the mic output that goes into the GOPRO (not Sena) Backpack.

Im starting to go blind after looking at the options and watching too many US based set up vlogs so I just need some sort of assurance that this is what y'all know too....

Hi. Audio issues are the hardest to overcome but your solution should work fine, if you are happy with older tech cameras (nothing wrong with the GoPro Hero 4 btw)
My main helmet has a Sena mic and a camera mic in the chin
