Anyone else integrating drone shots in their videos?

I think the UK gov at least, want their use to be such a ball ache, folk just don't bother with them... trouble is, that will make more and more folk use them illegally, and if they are prepared to use them illegally, then they are more likely to use them dangerously. If they had a higher weight threshold and allowed hobbyists to use them on monetised channels without having to jump through so many hoops, folk would be more inclined to use them responsibly.
Most of the places I'd want to use it are historical sites with lots of visitors, so I get why those flights would need to be restricted.

If you want good video, with a gimbal etc and something you can carry on the bike they aren't cheap.

Budget option would be DJI Spark or similar, but you are looking 500 dollars plus.

I've just bought a used DJI Mavic Air, but that was around 500 quid...(750 dollars)

Second hand will be best bet. I sold my Mavic Pro for £500 with 3 batteries and various extras, had only been used a handful of times.

Commercial meaning you make your income from it. Most won't. It's designed to allow hobbyist flyers to still fly but prevent people making a living flying illegally in the UK.

To be honest if you do a handful of flights a year away from people bad buildings people are rarely going to notice. But if you make a living advertising services for drone use etc then you could be in trouble if ever investigated.

I've never once had any negative interactions with people about my drone. But I never overfly people, never fly outside line of sight or in VR goggles only.

It's all about being sensible. The small minority ruin it for everyone else.

Commercial flying is equal to using a drone on a monetised YouTube channel. Now if I'd get done for it or not is irrelevant to me as I'd rather not risk losing my job for a bit of b-roll fluff.
Others are welcome to interpret the law how they like, am just going by my risk assessment based on my personal situation!

I have 2 drones that I bought recently ( Mavic Mini and Mavic Pro 2) , but I am still trying to figure out the best way to use them. I think on longer trips I will get a better chance, especially over nighters when I can get out while others rest and grab some footage. I have a few clips from the drones on my channel, but they are very few. Hopefully I can get out more and put them up. I'm kinda timid in regards to where I fly, don't want to annoy people or damage a new drone.

From the CAA guidance. This appears to be similar to 'hire or reward' for cars. I.e, giving a mate a lift is OK, but taking paying strangers isn't.

So it seems, even if monetised, we are safe.

While every case should be judged on its own merits, some types of arrangements are not generally considered by the CAA to be commercial operations such as:

• Advertising revenue received as a result of persons visiting a website or social media page where video or photographic stills shot from a UAS are displayed/posted. This is because these types of web-pages may be legitimately used to post recreational video material that was not commissioned by another party but was conceived and wholly funded by the poster.

A commercial operation is defined as:
‘flight by a small unmanned aircraft except a flight for public transport, or any operation of any other aircraft except an operation for public transport;

• which is available to the public;
  or
• which, when not made available to the public,
  in the case of a flight by a small unmanned aircraft, is performed under a contract between the SUA operator and a customer, where the latter has no control over the remote pilot
  or
  in any other case, is performed under a contract between an operator and a customer, where the latter has no control over the operator,

in return for remuneration or other valuable consideration.’

The key elements in understanding this term are ‘…any flight by a small unmanned aircraft…in return for remuneration or other valuable consideration’.

The term ‘available to the public’ should be interpreted as being a service or commodity that any member of the public can make use of, or actively choose to use, (e.g. because it has been advertised or offered to someone).

I hesitate to say it - but if any more clarity is required then I could reach out to the CAA - I do have some contacts there, but it's not their area of expertise.

However I think the regs are clear that monetised Youtube is exempt from being commercial

Yeah, you're right, I can't cheap out on good drones. I'll budget 700 when I get the chance. I don't really need it now but something to look forward to.
