So I see Hippo-drone for example, has a few videos where he visits abandoned airfields.
Good stuff !

Anyone else have a particular interest / speciality that's not strictly bike related but they have quite a few videos of?

The airfields were an extension of my Motovlogging History video series, which is something I very much enjoy. C19 have put it on pause for now though! :)

I showed off some of my reptiles in the Q&A.
And have shown once or twice an animal in a motovlog, but tend to keep them away.

I have 2 video's on my channel which are CT-scans of my older helmets as well.
Love radiology and everything that comes with it ;)

I do gaming clips during the winter which are not that popular but it at least gets something out. I think I will add some more live hangout stuff this year to hopefully boost the channel a bit more. Its just winter kills me for moto content.

I like tractors and agricultural stuff so I count them in my vlogs as a joke, I guess that's the best example. Although more recently I have applied my powder coating hobby and interest into my videos by powder coating my bike :)

When I started my channel I considered making it a general Mengy channel where I would post videos of kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, gaming, all kinds of topics. I eventually decided to niche down and just keep it to motorcycle content.

Don't know if that was wise or not, and maybe I'll change that rule down the road, but for now it's what I'm going with.

That's not something we have to worry about here at all. 365 days/year riding season !
Snow? Ice? Salty roads? Bugger that !

But you make a good point - if you have a non-riding season content during winter would be a challenge.
Maybe
- how to lay up a bike for the winter
- videos of works / improvements / servicing / mods etc you do to the bike over winter.
- 'fireside' chats re any bike related topics.
Ask your viewers to comment what they do to cope over the winter - that might givebn you some excellent video ideas!

I have no idea what kind of winters you have there but maybe snowmobile content for winter / motorcycles for riding season?

Good thread here as I wrestle with my own channel similarly. I'm more travel than motorcycle right now.

Number one is that I did not want to brand myself as a motorcycle channel, just to keep the flexibility there (e.g. "Humes Moto" or "Humes Rider" or "Riding with Humes" type of branding was a no go; just "Humes" the persona).

What I tend to see is that as people grow and become "personalities" they are able to pivot to whatever content, as people are following them at that point (for the most part, @see Do It With Dan and Snewj), so it's a reasonable door to open if pivoting makes sense.

However, I agree that focusing on a niche / expectation of what your channel delivers is where we all need to start. The only caveat to that is the exploration phase, where we see what is received well and what is not. For example, my mountain rides are way better than my neighborhood rides so far; but also exploring gear review, travel/tourism type vibes, etc. I like how Gemini did a video riding an RZR Turbo S offroad, too, which is similar, but different.

I'll go further and say these are the types of categories I typically see that stay motorcycle focused:

- Motorcycle first rides/testing bikes; e.g. Chase on Two Wheels' first ride series
- Motorcycle rebuilds
- Expensive motorcycles; Jaret Campisi type stuff
- How-tos and reviews
- Teaching; MotoJitsu
- Stunt riding; brian_636
- Speed riding; MaxWrist
- World exploration; Itchy Boots
- Local exploration; myself at the moment, Ducati NYC Blog, etc.
- Daily life; Walterrific

When I look at this list, I only see three areas applicable to me:
- How-tos and reviews (but not my strength/interest)
- Local exploration (I feel I can make this my niche; e.g. events/history/observations/interactions/group rides)
- Daily life (typically what most people do, so have to be funny / enjoyable mostly)

So real question is, is motorcycling my "anchor" or is "local exploration" my anchor, with motorcycling being one flavor of that ? My guess is the latter, and that's fine, but it's this type of noodling that feels worthwhile.

I just recently posted some footage from my trip to Utah. I lost subs, but I don't really mind, its my channel and a hobby. I do need to get back to regular uploads though, vacation impacted that. Next time I will probably have a video or 2 in hand to have scheduled while on vacation.

I'm in the same boat, I've lost a few subs from my powder coating vid on Monday but as long as the people watching enjoy the content then I'm not fussed :)

After all, Youtube is a hobby in itself.

winters here pretty much take up 5 months out of the year. If its not the snow it the salt and sand they throw down on the road.

Why would anyone unsub from a channel because a video was posted?
I'm not sure, but the powder coating topic undoubtedly caused it as I didn't upload for 6 weeks and when the new vid went up 3 people must have thought "ight imma head out" :D
