Better way of sharing your videos on FB.

I was thinking recently about the better way of sharing videos on facebook. I saw people are using basically two options:
1. share the video directly on FB,
2. share the thumbnail or some picture on facebook with youtube link in the descriptions.

And now the question is which makes more sense and why. My own thoughts here... We know that youtube is checking social media engagement so the videos shared more are doing better on YT, so:
- If you shared with 1 - all the likes under that video are traceable for youtube, so it knows your vid has a lot of likes.
- if you share with method 2, I'm not sure if youtube can measure the number of likes on FB, but
- people who see #2 on FB will need to click the link and watch it on YT, and possibly they will engage on YT.
- if you share #1 I'm not sure if the views count will be included on YT, will it?
- if you share with your friends and most of them are not bikers, they will possibly just watch a few seconds and click like on FB. Not so much probable they will ever click like on YT though. In this case it seems a better way to post a picture with link, so those not interested that much will just give you like on FB, and they will skip the YT link. As the result they will not lower your watch time stats.

Thoughts for pennies. What do you reckon? Which option works better, pros and cons?

I've generally found that if I skip youTube and upload a video directly to Facebook and then share that video it'll get a huge amount of views compared to if I share a YouTube video on Facebook. I've also found those videos often get shared by more people too... but I only really do those videos occasionally and are normally short clips. That is not what you asked though lol

YouTube doesn't care how many comments or likes a post gets on Facebook, it cares about people interacting with your channel on YouTube.Viewer retention is important, so if you think your friends or family are just clicking on your video and hitting the like button without watching, tell them to not do it and explain it hurts your channel when they do. Ask them, if they don't actually want to watch your video, to just click on your latest video just before they leave the house on their PC so they don't have to watch physically if they want to help your channel.
A better thing for you to do regarding Facebook (if you have not done so already), is create a page for your channel, that way you'll not have to share your videos on your personal Facebook profile, you can even join groups as your page now, so you can keep personal life separate from motovlogging.

I share mainly on YouTube and notice that if I watch a video someone else posted on Facebook the same way and want to comment, I have to sign in for YouTube from Facebook or switch to YouTube.

About a year ago I was shooting footage for a Facebook page and the quality of a Facebook loaded video was nowhere near the ones shared from YouTube.

Which is better depends on what your goals are. If it is to give the best experience to the viewer through quality, YouTube wins. If it just to get the info out there for sharing then Facebook is easier for the viewer to share with others.

I'm not certain about that. At least tubebuddy is suggesting otherwise. And it is counting facebook engagement for your vids. But maybe it's not important. In that case posting just the link would be better as only people really interested would check it.

Your views will count, but if they only like or comment on facebook, then YT gets no interaction on your vid!

And if i do, i do it through youtube, as that seems to work best (and is convenient xD )

Well, I don't have the page for my channel and I won't start one probably. The reason is simple. I had a few pages on facebook about my other activities with quite a few followers and what I found is that Facebook is limiting the reach of my posts drastically compared to private profile. And a lot of my friends saw that too. They are basically trying to force you to boost your posts. So, I don't see a point in posting something which is delivered to 10% of my followers. Is it different now, as it was 4 years ago?

They still keep asking you to promote, but I never do. I boost my own posts by finding the right places to share them. My page has around 1k followers and is growing still... I just like not having to spam all my mates with my videos except for those who chose to follow my page
Have had over 20k views on one clip that went straight to Facebook, and it was shared by others almost 200 times. It is a great way to get noticed!

At the best moment I had 4k followers on mine, and much less friends on FB of course but still 1k ish as I allowed some of the followers to add me as a friend. And when I posted something on my page, it had 20% reach of similar posts on my own timeline. But in fact, you can't share posts from private timeline unless it's public which you don't want in most cases. That bit is making me think now

Very relevent to the day that it is.. so I am certain this is not a new idea but here was what i have been planning for my next YT video which I plan to upload tomorrow evening and would appreciate your thoughts .

So I have my video edited and ready, as part of the process I made a 10 second trailer with wording hinting about what the video is about and a matching jpeg the plan is to post them on my related insta and FB today to try and generate interest before and after posting..

Good Idea or bad idea and a waste of my time?

On Instagram that is a good idea, but probs best to do it at the same time as the main vid. I'd not bother doing that on FB, as if folk interact with that one, they may not see much point in opening the full video on YouTube.

I started by uploading videos to FB for friends to see, don't have a Fool Moon FB page, and when you do that it streams and more see it. Linking my Youtube page to the clip didn't get anyone to click to watch and these are my friends.

now i download the very video i uploaded to youtube and put that smaller clip, 10% of the original, on FB so it streams. no link to youtube, but i'm not trying to drive traffic from friends, esp since none ride.

I have a channel page on FB and I post links to all of my YT vids, then I share those links in three motovlog FB groups. They don't seem to get much interaction though. I do get quite a bit of views from FB but not many likes nor interactions beyond that.

I probably need to share my posts to more places on FB, but how do you find motovlog friendly places to share posts to? There doesn't seem to be many active ones....

I probably need to share my posts to more places on FB, but how do you find motovlog friendly places to share posts to? There doesn't seem to be many active ones....

Look for groups related to your bike, that is my main source of Facebook views and where I gain subs from. You have to be active on others posts too though else they will soon kick you off!
I have now pretty much left all the FB groups specifically for motovlogging, the ones I have stuck with have more interaction and are more like a group of friends....

I sometimes promote my videos on bike specific pages on Facebook as Hippo said above, it's a good way to directly interact with the audience interested in your bike.

I post a thumbnail of my motovlog videos on FB, and a synopsis of the post. In the Comments section I post the link to my YT channel (I think that was option 2 by the OP). I think this is better as oppose to directly posting the video directly on FB. When done that way I really don't have control over what image is used to represent it, and chances are it's something from the first few seconds of the video and probably not the best way to showcase it.

On FB it's been very successful as I post the same way on a number of FB group pages. As a scooter rider there 's a decent number of forums online, but most aren't as interested in scooter or MC motovlogs as you'd imagine. B ut the Scooter and bike related group pages on FB are, and its been successful in driving views, traffic and subs to my channel.

I should be more active on instagram but I really don't like it as it's kind of boring. I don't use cell/smart phones other than a Trac phone used for emergencies while I ride. I have my laptop and iPad for checking email and social media like FB. What I have had posted on Instagram doesn't seem to drive traffic or views to my channel overall.

I think all the videos I've shared from YouTube onto FB/Twitter show the videos thumbnail, although it is often cropped a little bit

I don't think I've ever tried to share a video directly from YT. Guess I never considered it as I'm pretty much social media-y challenged. I think I just drop the link in the post box on my FB page, or on other group pages which would explain why I never got the icon I wanted.
