Like others I struggle with appropriate tags but am trying @HippoDrone advice regarding using others titles as tags.

I'm still striving to hit my 100 sub mark but am quite happy that my view count seems to be increasing. Whether it's just one person repeatedly watching or what I don't know.

Yeah most people always say not to worry about subscriber count. Just focus on the viewership.

This might not be as relevant (and I essentially have zero YouTube creator experience, so this comes with a pinch of salt), but I tend to get a little alienated by the whole "like, subscribe, comment, buy my stuff" at the end of every video.

It could be (if you're like me) that people choose to view but not subscribe because of that, but I don't know how likely that is across the masses.

I understand. In my videos I forget to even mention any of that in the end.I just assume my end screen says it all with the subscribe button and previous video. If you like me then sub and if you don't then don't sub. Simple as that.

That is super refreshing to hear. Usually the response to my position on the whole thing is “Yeah, but the algorithm wins.”

It does win, but I strongly believe it doesn’t have to assert control over every aspect of videos posted on YouTube. (rant over)

Another thing to keep in mind is that Youtube seem to delete fake accounts every few months, so you'll lose these subscibers, but they were not watching your content anyway. Even my tiny channel has experienced this, I had 20 and lost 3 all in 1 day, all 3 accounts had been deleted by YT.

of course, just make videos that you want to put out and with consistency, the channel will build up. Yeah, people do rely on the algorithm a little too much.

Yeah, but when you have multiple dead subs that don't watch your channel can also appear "faked".
Like channels who do sub for sub, or channels that buy subs.
So YT removing dead and/or fake accounts is a plus in my eyes, especially when you encounter those channels yourself ;)

Also, to add to that, i don't believe YT's algorithm kicks in when you are below a certain threshold (subs and views) anyways.
So must of us can do what we like, without caring about the algorithm, because it doesn't apply to us ;)

I have to disagree. If you tag your video properly and it is a searchable topic then it will do fairly well. I have a bad review video that I got off topic with and it has 10-20 views per day because I got my tags right and it even shows up when you search on google! Small channel at the top of the search list, too bad the video sucks.

That's really good to know, RideOnTwo. I uploaded my first videos some hours ago, and had my first experience working with tags - I have to say that I get a strange kick from "getting it right", but it does become a bit of a pile-up and measuring contest.

With your advice, I'm looking forward to a glimmer of hope for my YouTube future!

It is complicated but can be rewarding when you get it. Like I said, just wish the video was better.
