Polarized filter to hide incriminating evidence....

I thought this little experiment might interest a few of you. I have not tested it on the bike yet though, will try that next time I get a day off!

Polarizing filters will not give a pleasant result on wide angle lenses. Vignetting might become a problem.

I'll give it a go and see how it comes out. I can always put it directly on the dash, but that would stop me being able to read it too.

Well definitely worth a try, won't know for sure, before. Just from my experience with photography, I know, that it can darken the edges quite a bit.

I've thought about doing it, but then I think why am I trying to hide. If the police ever came to my door after something I did on a youtube video I'd be more surprised that they watched it.

A guy I served with in the US Army tinkers with gadgets. He found online about using some sort of glasses to see through the polarized effect on a computer screen. That way no one can see it.

Of course Johnny Law might think the screen is busted and you get written up for bad equipment.

Or you could just put a virtual sticker on it is edit . . .

In the UK the police can ask to see any footage on helmet mounted cameras so being able to have the speed edited out with a filter would reduce any chance of self incrimination

Is that during the time of being pulled over, or after they watch the footage online and come to your residence?
Wound it be better to just angle the camera so it won't see the speedometer on the dash, or just cover over that
part of the dash if the point of the ride is to exceed the speed limit.

Angling up is fine on a bike you don't move around on, but on a bike you lean off it can be in the middle of the screen. Covering the dash means you can't see the speed, it is not wise to speed in certain places, maybe cameras or maybe just dangerous to do so, so you would want to know your speed. If this works it is an awesome solution, if it doesn't it is a worthy experiment. Obviously I never speed, but others who may, might find this useful! ;-)

I wonder, if the direction of the sun, will affect the readability also. Sure, the two polarizing filters should cancel each-other out, in theory, like with the monitor, but what if the light is too strong, and will still come through?

Also, another workaround, if it is clearly stated "helmet mounted cameras," do like I do - use a chesty

The Chesty is a cool set-up. For those that mic their helmet, they can still run a line down to the GoPro. A Chesty might not work when in a full tuck though as @HippoDrone tends to get sometimes.

Not sure about your laws/courts but where I am it would be up to you to show the court how far off the speedo was and that you had it recalibrated.

On a related matter, I have a Fuelpak3 on my bike and can adjust my speedo through it so maybe there is something like that for other bikes.

Wouldn't that make you automatically a lawbreaker, for riding a vehicle, that is technically not sound?

Phone privacy screens can mask Speedo’s - haven’t tested in a long time though.

I’m gonna move this to editing, it fits there more.
