ZX6R suffered a dead cylinder, bloody pissed.

I knew it was an old bike when I bought it on Apr 1st last year. It was a 2005 bike. But it looked well taken care of.

In the span of a single year despite enjoying the shit out of my dream bike, the rectifier blew out, costing me SGD 300 to replace. One day as I was heading home from work, I turned the bike on only to hear nothing from the fuel pump and almost panicked, until it suddenly came on by itself after turning it on and off a few times.

Now all of a sudden as I was heading home from work yesterday, I hear the engine sounding a bit different, almost like a triple. I had basically no acceleration anymore, and the bike vibrated a bit more than usual.

I got home and did the water spray test on the headers. True enough, one header wasn't drying as fast as the others.

God damn I'm pissed. Because I have an annual inspection to send it in this coming Saturday. I just hope they turn a blind eye or don't notice the change in emissions so I can get it over with and fixed at the workshop...and I don't know how much of a blow to my wallet it will be this time.

Could be as simple as swapping out the plugs, or it could be a problem with my injector. I just hope the cylinder doesn't rack up more damage in the meantime it takes to drive it to the inspection center, and then to the work shop.

When it takes fuel in to the cylinder, and does not burn it, it can definitely cause stress to the engine. Best you don't ride it, before it's sorted.
First thing I'd do, is to check if the cylinder is getting spark, and if it is injected engine, also check if it gets fuel.

Granted technology changes but sounds like my 73 CB750 after I replaced the gaskets back in 92. The valve adjuster lock nuts got a little loose. I lost one cylinder 1/2 way between Austin and Ft. Hood Tx. Then another and when I got it to the shop, they were impressed with the work except the valve adjusters wiggling loose.

So maybe that is all it is. It could be intake. If it was exhaust, then that might lead to other problems because where would the explosion go.

Other problem comes to mind. I had a pal recently melt the piston on his Grom. It turned over but would not run. Seems when he put the oversized piston/cylinder he leaned it out too much.

For what it's worth, you might as well change the spark plugs out first before going. I don't really care about the inspection but more about the state of the engine, continuing to run it like that may cause more damage and in turn blow a bigger hole in your wallet.

Such is the life of owning a higher cc bike. Buying one is easy as f***. Maintaining one is a whole different story. You gotta pay to play. Trust me when I say this won't be the end of story. As we continue to ride the wear and tear will come and speaking of which you might as well get a valve clearance check done, and replace the spark plugs so that you don't pay extra for labour fees in future, but they will need to replace the gaskets when doing VC so it's another cost.

I have my trusted mechanic and friend to work on my bike, if you are up for it, bring your bike to KL, I will take you to him, he will check your bike up and point out whatever issues. SGD being much stronger than MYR maybe will hurt less.

Anyways if you are interested you can talk to him directly, you are definitely not the first Singaporean to come all the way to his shop to get proper work done, tell him Saibot sent you. Facebook: @66SpeedBike

Yea, I actually didn't ride the bike the moment I felt the cylinder die. Immediately took it to inspection to clear it ASAP, then popped over to my usual workshop that was nearby. Thankfully the distance wasn't far, like 15km from home, I doubt there was a lot of damage during that time frame.

Yea, owning a big bike is frigging expensive. But I'll just have to get over it.

Anyway, I wish it was easy to get to KL to do a checkup, considering all the Kawa specialists are in Malaysia. But it feels like I'll need to apply for leave to ride up there...

Yea, thankfully it was something that simple that could be replaced with rather universal parts. I was worried the cause was either a bad piston ring seal or an injector. Both require OEM exclusive parts, that would be tremendously difficult to find and expensive to buy in Singapore due to the non-existence of Kawasaki support here.
