Hi everyone,

Recently I passed my test and got my first big bike. Yesterday I slid off as I pulled away too fast (stupid mistake). Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to install the crash bungs as they are still in the post and as a result here is the damage.

How the hell am I going to replace this??
So far I came across this engine cover located in China for only £18 on eBay, but it's listed for an FZ6R, but the question is would it fit my bike? It looks pretty similar.

If anyone can help find a replacement or has any suggestions I'd really appreciate it.

Yes should fit fine. I think one from an r6 will also fit just fine.

Save yourself the bother, buy some engine covers and that's sorted and hidden out the way.

P>S you don't own a bike until you've dropped it once anyway so bonus, you've got it out the way

If it is not too noticeable without getting on your hands and knees, why not put a bit of touch up paint? Bikes get knocked around, scratched, and dropped. I realize, if you are like me, that bike is almost your best friend but it happens. Plus if can make for good stories!

I know a small custom bike builder that takes a pocket knife to every bike he builds for show and puts a small scratch under the tank. I asked him why and he explained that it helps him get over it being scratched by accident later.

Thats quite a scratch for a drop though.

You sure someone hasn't tried a burn out and spun out ;)

I've repaired shallow scratches (not sure how deep yours are) by sanding down the damaged area and then repainting. As long as you don't remove too much material it should be fine.

Haha basically, I was in a bad mood and spun the bike out as I was leaving the parking space. Like I was turning right as I was pulling away too fast and the bike slipped and fell down. Completely my fault but my head was elsewhere.

Think I'd rather just spend 18 quid for a new one, then install my crash bungs. My bike is mint showroom condition so it would look a bit stupid with paint.

glad you are ok. Regarding the gasket, it won't cost a lot, def worth replacing.

Never reuse a gasket. Once they’re off, they’re damaged and 99.999% leak when refitted. It’s not worth it for what’s a few pounds/dollars.

Sorry to hear about your drop, to be honest, I'd just take some black paint and touch it up and call it done, after a few days you won't even remember or care to notice the scuff marks.
