In short:
On July 13, 2016 the Union list is published. This list contains animal and plant species that are prohibited by August 4th. With what purpose? The complete eradication of invasive alien species in the European nature and in captivity. Amongst others, the beloved Waterhyacinth is on the list, an ornamental aquatic plant that many pond owners have in their gardens. This affects not only individuals , but also many shops, zoos , botanical gardens and schools with green educations! An impact that many people tend to underestimate . They don’t want to contain species, but completely eradicate them. Crazy right?!

I don't really do politics and don't really want the site to become politic at all.

However, I'm a sucker for a good old fashioned debate so I'm promoting based on chit chat. I'm also not 100% this is anything more than a 'could be' kind of news? I've not found anything thats based on facts?

I have checked Google news and the odd news stories so stand out but again, more like pub talk?

But I like animals so I'm promoting just because there appears to be slight truth in this one?

Not in a position to watch, but as a lapsed aquarist, many plants were banned from IMPORT because of their invasive nature in the UK water systems, but individuals who own these plants weren't banned from passing them about.

It's impossible to ban something that's already here, you just try and control distribution.

With the new laws (which will also be active in the UK) it is.
It is illegal to sell, trade of buy the plants on this list (and the ones that will follow).
It is illegal to breed and/or reproduce the plants on the list.

It is a dying out process, meaning that everything in the wild will be shot, burned or destroyed/exterminated.
Everything in hands of civilians, governments and zoo/botanic gardens/petting zoos/herpetology schools etc. are bound to a dying out rule. (so no breeding, no selling).

Absolutely true.
Same goes for the animals that either change sex or don't need a partner for reproduction.
Means you will have to either kill of the spawn or kill of the adult plant/animal.

They seem to just want to kill everything off.

My old Brazilian Pennywort just kept growing. Had a 1.2m tank and regularly pulled 1.8m strands out. Used to cut them back to 60cm and sell/give away the excess.

I have he same experience with Wandering Jew.
It is in every single tank now, and i never bought a single plant xD
