What Editing Software Do You Use?

im using avs witch iv pay'd for life time subscription i like it and its pritty easy to use but my options are open so let me know what you use and rate it out of 10 ?

iMovie on Mac.
8/10

Pros:
  • Easy to use
  • Background renders
  • Handles 1080p60 no problem
  • Fairly simple to do green screen/picture-in-picture/titles/transitions
Cons:
  • Cannot fade-in or fade-out separately (if you fade-in, it applies equal fade-out)
  • Audio ducking rubbish compared to older version.
  • Can't add plug-ins
  • Over-complicated events/projects libraries
I used iMovie back in 2001, and it was quite different. Expandable, and more adjustments, but a bit more old-fashioned
The modern one is a lot quicker to use though.

Used to use Windows Movie Maker. Then made the jump to Sony Vegas. Wouldn't go back.

WMM - 5 (Simple and quick to use but limited)
Vegas - 9 (Nothing is perfect)

Adobe Premiere/After Effects.
8/10

+ Works well with other Adobe softwares like Photoshop and Audition.
+ Tons of tutorials and resources out there.
+ Industry-standard level of editing capabilities.
+ Doesn't favor Mac nor PC
- May look intimidating to new users
- Expensive
- Relies a bit too much on other software.

If you are inclined to learn new softwares and have some experience with Adobe, you'll figure out the structure pretty fast.
Userfriendliness suffers in order to be flexible and customizable.
Def not a light and easy to use software. But powerfull with the right knowledge and experience.

FCPX (Mac only) 8/10, but I've barely scratched the surface.

I'd add that it's worth looking at YT tutorials for features you might use in different editors, see which ones speak your language.

When at home: Final Cut Pro X (9/10)
+ Fairly easy to do quick edits
+ Extremely powerful once you get past the learning curve (same as any top end piece of software)
+ Plenty of free tutorials
- Mac Only - I use it because I have a Mac as a main computer. That is only a - for those who dont have a Mac.
- Can be difficult to get to the more powerful aspects

Out and About: iMovie on the iPad (6/10)
+ Good enough for quick edits
+ Easy to use
+ Can export project to Mac iMovie which can then export that project to FCPX
- Very simplistic
- Not very many effect options

Special note: I use the GoPro Studio to initially do color on any GoPro videos (I use ProTune). Once I have that done, I save them out for final edit in FCPX.

I think I said this in another thread, but editing comes down to what you know the best and are comfortable using. Can industry standard software produce the best video? Sure, if you really know how to use them. Can something as simple as iMovie or Windows Movie Maker produce good videos? Absolutely. Is it possible for the simple editors to produce better videos? Yes, if you are unfamiliar with the pro tools and dont know how to use them properly. No need to spend hundreds of dollars on software unless you want to put in the time learning it. There are plenty of How-To videos out there for the pro tools, so if you are inclined, grab it and get watching the How-To's.

FCPX. I can't rate the software because it can do so much more than I can actually think of doing, so I'll rate myself as 1/10 noob level user. LoL.

I have been using openshot which is a free, open source video editor for linux and it is really easy to use even for a beginner as myself, yet I am amazed at how much stuff is packed into this simple editor.

Sony Vegas. 8.5/10.

Mainly because I'm still learning stuff with it. Sure it can do everything I ever want.

I use Adobe After Effects since I want to try and up my editing skills over time. I jumped in on the deep end not knowing the program at all and have decent amount of skill on it now. But nothing any other program couldn't do just as well.

Its also a relevant skill to have at work since I'll be using it for animations soon enough.

I bought an outdated version of Sony Vegas Pro for like $30 on Amazon. It does fine for what I need and since I'm not making a ton of money off youTube, cheaper is better for me.

ok so im binning avs after only using it on 2 videos it drops my 1080p 60fps to below 720 avs is worse then standerd movie maker its realy wound me up

Except Render in h.264 natively, which is annoying considering h.264 is the most commonly used codec in the internet. Though indeed Vegas Pro is easy to use.

Well, I just spent an hour going into detail about our experience with the pros and cons of both photoshop and FCPX and it says its too long. Sorry. Cant post it I guess. dang.

There is also DaVinci Resolve, that's free for the non-Pro version but may need a grunty machine, I tried it on my laptop and it seems to run but I have no idea how well... Also you will need to invest quite some time learning, it doesn't look like it's for beginners

well i need new software but cant make my mind up on what i want
I can't post links, I'm a (noob) but go to my website, it's the same as my name and you read what I tried to put on here about two. Again, I tried to post it on here but was told it was too long.
If you do read it and have questions I'll reply here or there.
I am by no means, trying to break the rules or upset a mod or anything, I'm not selling anything, maybe send me. PM on here maybe I can send a link that way.
