Your too old to ride!

Data on motorbike size was not available to the researchers, but they suggested that older adults were more likely to buy bikes with larger engines - leading to more severe injuries.

The authors suggest that reduced bone strength in older adults and their ability to buy more powerful bikes may play a part.

I love how they feel the need to throw that absolutely useless, and flat out wrong little bit of information in there. If anything older riders tend to be on larger, heavier bikes. But more powerful? Hardly. That study loses a lot of credibility with me when they state that they don't have any information at all on something, and then go on to impart their opinions on it anyway.

I also love how the article makes several references to how something is 'worse' over here, but makes no references at all to the vast difference in population. Half that article was little more than pointless fluff. Interesting though to see that they had to do a study to find out that brittle old people suffer more in the event of a crash.

Bikers over the age of 60 were three times more likely to be admitted to hospital compared to those in their 20s and 30s - and two-and-a-half times more likely to sustain a serious injury.
.

Same thing could probably be said of any sort of activity. Also would work other way around, give babies keys to motorcycles and see how well they get on.

Babies bounce though, right? ;)

Interesting thread, its true that as you get older it takes longer to heal things like broken bones, however id like to think that with all the experience gained through years of rideing that you would also be less likely to have an accident. That and protective gears improves every year which the "older and wiser" should hopefully be useing.

also somewhat of a pointless study, everyone who rides a bike knows its dangerous but it dosnt stop them, at the end of the day if a biker whats to ride a bike then he's gona find a way of rideing one regardless of their age.

heck the other day i saw an 80 somthing year old rideing around on one of those traffic cops shows and he seemed to be doing better then most 80 year olds, so who knows mabey bikes are the key to eternal youth ;)

But your reactions tend to get worse too. You also can't stop those idiots that pull out right at the very last second - a risk to anyone regardless of experience. ;)

too true however id like to hope that with the extra experience you would at least be less likely to have an accident due to your own rideing. At the end of the day it dose not really matter how old the rider is, if someone decides to pull out at last moment the chances are your gona hit it regarless of age, just look at what happened to spicy110 for example

Exactly the point I was making.

Although I wouldn't use spicy as an example.
