Right so I'll start first, I use a GoPro 960 HD Hero, Good for most things but vlogging it seems, it's a very good camera no doubt, but getting it inside your helmet can be a pain, putting it on the outside and then having to record your speech is also a pain, I have really only 1 use for it and thats just to record what happens while on the bike and not vlog with it. it's just that little bit to big to vlog with I persoanlly think.

I've been looking at the Drift HD and the Contour but I'm leaning towards the Contour as it's a little more sleek. I'd need the camera to also have an external mic port. And possibly something with a decent batterie life.

Would be nice to get a view from each of the cameras which you use and more. & Why you choose that camera over another.

Drift HD170 user here, got it for £150 brand new which was a bargain. The Contour HD was/is going for the same money and the GoPro, while awesome, costs more.

Reasons I bought the Drift; first and foremost, the external mic port and secondly the cost.

I don't have audio sync issues and the quality is excellent, not to mention I have no wires trailing from my helmet, only the one from the back of the camera to the inside of my helmet.
Cost wise; same cost as the Contour and similar image quality. Add on the cost of a dictaphone and mic/external mic and silicon cover and the Contour worked out a bit more costly with no quality gain and a large loss of convenience.

As an added bonus the Drift has a viewfinder.

The main downside of the HD170 over the Contour and the GoPro is its size. It's not what you'd call small, but then again I don't really care for subtlety.

Hope that helps!

I use the Creative Vado HD. Not a great cam as it doesn't have stabilization. Why? Because it fits in my helmet with no issues & it's cheap. $90 Canadian. Sound quality seems to be pretty good. I plan to get another cam soon to mount on the bike for more interesting vids. I actually have 2 Vados so I'll try that first. But I might end up picking up a better one. Not sure which tho.

Drift over the contour any day, from what I've heard about the contour the drift is more reliable. Also the drift isn't as bulky as you think, you almost notice it less than the contour. Finally it has a external mic port and the screen is great for setting up and checking what you just filmed.

Contour HD 1080p, I did the mic mod on it, syncing up separate audio was driving me mad. New cam will be the baby Drift HD.

I use the VIO POV.HD I like it because the unit is small in the sense of the camera so you can mount it any where on your helmet, but does have its down sides. I think the image quality of the Drift and gopro are better though when it comes to lighting and auto exposure response times.

My review of it...

i use the MD80.
pros:
very very small. fits very well in side of any helmet.
sound quality is excelent but there are times that sounds cuts and fades back into effect, dont ask y, it just happens...
cons:
video quality is good until u start bounching, no stabilization what so ever. low light conditions makes fps drop to 1 frame per 2 secs. ex: in a tunnel everything slows down....
audio cuts from time to time as mentioned above.
there are no mounts for it for instance if you want some kind of a diferent POV.
i havent got any vlog on yet cause im still a bit uncomfortable with my recent videos but be asure that ill have something with "cam setup"...
hope this helped...

Used an MD80 until recently, excellent for people just starting, but big con it's not HD. You do get a lot for £12 but at the end of the day it's still a £12 camera.

The Contour is, good. It's not fantastic, but it's a damn sight better than most. It's ease of use is fantastic, reliable on off switch which is fully glove compatible. As gogosor said the audio matching can be annoying, so i may be modding it at some point in the future.

It fully has my reccomendations, this is the HD 720p by the way, steer clear of any of the newer models, as i'm sure ParisianZee will happily explain to you :P

Started with MD 80, switched to ContourHD. Personally I love it, and use a digital recorder for audio in the helmet. Syncing doesn't take very long so I don't find it annoying.

I currently make use of three GoPro HD cameras at any given moment on the bikes I review. I chose the GoPro for a couple of reasons:

  • Wanted the HD just in case I ever needed it
  • I like the quality of the videos
  • Pretty much industry standard
  • Replacement brackets are cheap and easy to get
  • They're simple to use
  • Darn near indestructible

As for the indestructible part, the co-host for my online show went down on her first track day and one of the cameras was mounted to the faring on the side that hit the ground. No damage to the actual camera at all. Only the bracket was busted. Oh, and just to let you know, she's ok. Just banged her leg and was a little sore for a couple of days. As for the footage? Well, she kind of forgot to turn the camera on when she went out on the track.

I think I have the simplest setup.

I run the GoPro the same but I have put Velcro at the top of the 'forehead' and it sits on my forehead, I can open my visor it doesn't obstruct my view either.

Reasons why I was looking around and getting different peoples views is because it's getting a little annoying having it in side my helmet it works don't get me wrong just irritating rubbing against my head.
