So if you watch my videos you know that I'm considering selling my 2009 Kawasaki ZX-6r Monster Edition and picking up a 2013 Triumph Tiger 800xc OR a 2012-'13 Suzuki V-Strom 650 Adventure ABS if the Tiger proves too hard to get.

I just ran quotes for both on Geico as that is where I have my car and bikes with.

$1,571.00 per year for the 2013 Triumph Tiger 800xc
$1,262.00 per year for the 2013 Suzuki V-Strom 650 Adventure ABS

WTF?!?!?! My record is spotless! I have 5 years of street riding experience! Sure I am a 21 year old unmarried childless male but COME ON!!!1!!! WHY?????????

Sounds right...I was paying $1,500/year at first when I got my brand new 08 ZZR600 in 2008...I think a lot of it has to do with the bike being brand new.

When I was looking at the Street Triple...I made sure to get quotes on multiple model years. It went something like this...

$720/yr. for a 2009
$840/yr. for a 2010
$1,320/yr. for a 2011
and like $1,400/yr. for a 2012.

I was surprised at the huge jump between a 2010 and a 2011...probably because the bike would have been practically brand new. I'm 23 and my record is practically spotless, too.

Last time I shopped for insurance Geico offered a $1,400 premium. Progressive offered a $600 premium for the exact same coverages and time scale. Look elsewhere. Geico (apparently) doesn't actually like insuring motorcycles.

Geico gave me (or at least said they gave me) around $400 off for having all the other vehicles with them. I HATE Progressive (bad experiences) but I'll give them a look just for comparison purposes, Thanks Trinith!

For the Tiger Progressive just quoted me $2,241......until i got rid of the roadside and crap and did the $1,000 deductable when they knocked it down to $1,595. WOW

Bad experiences? That's interesting. Twice they gave me well over what I paid for a bike after effectively totalling it. They treat me like I walk on water.

A client of theirs took me out on a bike and they refused to pay claiming it was my fault...if it was my fault why didnt they come after me to fix his truck? But oh well i suppose. Considering how bad it could have been (didnt even drop it) its just one of those things.

Assuming you had liability insurance then they went to your insurance company (whether you claimed anything through your own insurance or not) and got the money from there.

One of Geicos clients caused me to total my VFR a while back, my insurance paid me for the bike and then took Geico to court to recover their expenditure. The dude in the truck didn't have to pay out of pocket. It's completely normal, that's what liability insurance does.

As much as they have annoyed me this year, its hard to beat Dairyland. Try them.

You can also try individual agents. They can often get much better rates than dealing with the company directly.

A Vstrom 650 should not run you $1500/year unless you have some accidents on your record, or tickets. Being 21 is part of it, but that isn't considered a high risk bike.
