Will camera mount on my helmet count against me on my test?

Some 20+ years ago, all the advice was never to attach or stick anything to your helmet because it would/could reduce the strength of the helmet.

Have helmets advanced so that attaching stickers or, in this specific example, Velcro for a camera mount, no longer cause any instability to the helmet itself?

And would a test examiner mark you down if you undertook your test with a helmet with anything amended on the helmet?

Below is my first ever vlog (that I find rather embarrassing) but it does show how I have set up my Drift. Since then, I have added an external microphone jack and fed it under the foam inside the helmet, and then added a simple pc extension microphone. Sometimes it works really well, and other times the wind really gets through.

And then I attach the remote to the right forearm on my jacket, on a strap that is meant to be used for tightening the jacket.

Re: Will camera mount on my helmet count against me on my te

I had the Velcro on my lid when I took my test and nothing was said about it, Unless the examiner is a total arse it should be no problem

Re: Will camera mount on my helmet count against me on my te

I took my test with the drift mount on and even asked if I could record it. They said no but didn't even say a word about sticking things to it

Done my test the other day with my Caberg helmet which has 2 mounts on it and nothing was said (still passed :D). They are looking how safely you ride, if the mounts affected you vision then it may be a different story.

Think they be more likely to frown at it being an open faced helmet ;)

lol.

I've got a full-face helmet and was looking to put the camera on there, but holding off so that it was "clean" for the test.

Anyone find that their camera, if side-mounted on the right, does actually interfere with your vision on a lifesaver or when looking fully back?

Re: Will camera mount on my helmet count against me on my te

my dad told me story's of when he was 17 or 18 and they used to have mohawks on there helmets the big thing was with police.

about if you come off what ever is stuck to your helmet would grip on the tarmac and make your head have resistance on the floor and could cause your neck to snap or something along them lines

I've only had mine mounted on the chin bar and sometimes when I do a lifesaver it'll catch on my shoulder.

My camera is too far back for me see from my visor. I'd imagine it's the same for most, if not all, riders.

People have been saying that, even about helmets in general, for years. But these helmet manufacturers know what they are doing.

Furthermore, there's actually never been (at least, at the time of an article I read a couple months back) a case of a helmet CAUSING a neck injury, including helmet accessories. In other words, nobody has every had their neck snapped because of a helmet or because of an accessory mounted on a helmet.

I took my test with the mount, no problems. And my mohawk (which I forgot to remove).

I would say best advice is to ask on the day. Of call up before hand and ask.

If they say they don't like it of it will count against you rip it off and stick it on later.

If they don't record it :D
