I see so many people that buy the drz 400, and alot of people complain that its not fast or strong enough, why do these guys not buy the KLR 650? Thanks ahead of time for answering.

people are under the understanding that to do things a supermotard does you must have a full motard. this is where the drz comes in, it has a higher seat harder suspension and higher bars. is lighter and people think it looks more like a motard/offroader. the klr 650 or if you dont want that big the klr 250 runs a perfect engine for road/offroad use. it is the bike you can jump on and do 1200kms down the highway without an issue take your luggage off then jump onto the track. it is a bit heavier but the power compensates.

the only difference is people seeing the two bikes..

IMHO

DRZ400sm = offroad use about 80% stunting 15% and road 5%
not saying these arent good bikes but they are more offroad orientated.

KLR650 = road orientated at about 60% offroad about 40%
these bikes are great for wheelies and easy to do but because of the weight people avoid them for this purpose

IMHO KLR wins hands down. my father owned 3. i have ridden them offroad for years before i rebuilt my 85' suzi ts185.

My take on this.
DRZ400sm and the DRZ400s are two totally different bikes and should not be thrown into the same mix.
the SM is great for city and light highway use. It's snappy very nice light handling bike.
The S (I have this) Is great for light highway use and EPIC in the dirt. It's easier to do the more technical bits of offroad riding where a KLR will struggle and have the rider busting a sweat......Use dual sport riders tend to dump and crash a lot, the DRZ is very easy to pick up compared to a KLR(I've helped many of my KLR friends pick up there bike xD)
The KLR is that nice middle ground.....It's great for on road but if you can keep it in grid roads where you can exceed the 60mph/100kph with out the risk of getting caught speeding and still be very comfy. (I cannot keep up to some of my KLR friends on the grid roads because usually they are going faster than my top speed -.-)
The DRZ is just as fast if not a bit faster than the KLR up to 60mph/100kph, so I would not say it's actually slow. The DRZ can be made to be very very powerful with a few cheap mods and so can the KLR.

I picked the DRZ over the KLR because I like the more technical riding aspect of Dualsport riding. I like how light it is, I like how easy it is to get over obstacles on it.
I'm not sure why either would complain about their bikes. Both of them are amazing tanks and can handle just about anything.

Bloodhay this is right. the klr and drz are completely different bikes. whereas the klr is a bike you throw your gfs 100kg worth of clothes in a pack over the back and take 3000kms across any surface without any issue. the drz is something that you use for the fun of riding. both are great work horses in their respective fields. its just that i prefer the capabilities that come from being able to haul an extra 100-200kg of people + luggage on the back of a klr

MY OPINION!!!!! :)

I upgraded from a DRZ 250 to a KLR650.
Loving every minute of it, it suits my riding style much better.

In the end different people like different things and want to do different stuff.

well i am at a crossroad right now, i want to buy something i can have fun on, also, as my son gets a little older i want to get him an atv and i would a bike i can ride with him you know. I am only 5 foot 7 inches so i am a little short. I feel the KLR would be hell on me in tough situations due to my height, but the DRZ is pretty tall to right? I have a street bike thats fast, so i am looking for something i can ride on street to get to some fun places for recording

what about weight, im around 220 lbs right now, heading down towards 200 over the next month, but as of now, will the 400 haul my fat a$%?

bahaha dude if my mates drz400e will haul my fat ass at 110kg and 6"4' im sure you wont have a problem! ;)

a klr 650 is a adventure bike and shouldn't be compared to drz's

a more realistic comparison would be a klx 650 same engine i think as the klr but better suspension and more offroad/motard decent over adventure.

plus looks quite beast wear as the klr looks rather butt ugly.

:roll: Apples and Watermelons! You've got the wrong comparison going here boys.
It's not DRZ VS KLR, it's DR vs KLR, that is Suzuki DR650 VS Kawasaki KLR650. That would be a better comparison. Adventure VS Adventure.
KLR = Road/Offroad
DR = Offroad/Road
