Here is a question i wanted to ask. why are there white zig zag lines on the ground at times? what does it mean?

They are at crossings they mean no waiting or overtaking within those zig zags also mean pedestrians must only use the crossing in that area ...hope this helps ..the actual highway code says
Zebra and pelican crossings zig-zag lines. Vehicles must not overtake, wait or park in the zig-zag areas. Pedestrians should not cross on the zig -zag areas. They should always use the crossing.
