Why Are Legends Dying?

Seems to be a running thing that a load of legends are dying. Rickman, Lemmy, Bowie, Frey etc

What's going on?! It's such a coincidence that they're all passing within a few weeks of each other.

Such sad news, especially for many that grew up with their music.

Although I don't understand the widespread grief, it's sad, but none of us knew them, we only knew their reputation and art, but some people have been in tears, I don't get that.

There have been a few celeb deaths over the years that I will admit I was quite upset about, and one that I still get a but cut up about when it's mentioned.

But I much the same don't understand the crying of the fans. You have to remember that a couple of these this week were from cancer so it's not like they were sudden to the families and people that knew them personally.

I did do a vlog last week on the death of Bowie and Rickman though. More about cancer than thier deaths though.

There's a brilliant meme about Rickman, it's a Men In Black theme. J and K are talking and J says it's a shame Rickman has died. K replies, he's not dead, he's gone home to see the Bowie concert :)

The widespread grief is complete bunk. I had a "friend" who bawled her eyes out about Bowie. When I asked her, she could not name anything he did (album, song or even movie) nor did she ever own anything. We sat later, listened to some music (which happened to be Bowie) and she wanted to hear something else because "it wasnt very good and sounded like over produced pop". Yeah, this is most of the people crying the hardest about the celeb deaths. The ones who want to be seen and heard on the bandwagon...

Legends are dying because they are old and not invincible. You dont get to be a legend without a long time in the trenches spanning decades. Decades.

Me, I go back and listen to my favorites and talk among my friends about concerts gone by. Their music (and movies) are still with us, so, they are still with us.

I'm pretty upset about Lemmy, but I've been a Motörhead fan since I was 14 years old (I'm 42 now). He inspired me to buy my first Rickenbacker bass and I wear the same beard (friendly mutton chops) as him much of the time. My metal project KBT was described as a "Goth-edged Motörhead Sound" and that's no coincidence either. I was really bothered by Wendy O Williams passing, too. That's just my roots in music, so to speak. I don't get people who get all bummed out about celebrity deaths when they don't know anything about them or just do it for attention.
