What's the deal with Facebook pages

So... I see a lot of people have Facebook pages, but the majority I've seen are follow/fan pages. What's the point? You any even really interact with people... Like see their news feed or anything. Sounds more like running a business page than the fun of interacting with friends you've made.

So far I just use my personal page because I don't hide my face or name, and I legitimately enjoy being friends on Facebook with the friends I've made in the motovlogging community... Is there any benefit at all to having a fan/follow only page?

FaceBook - (faysc book) aka FB - A popular electronic medium website where participants can convince themselves that having many thousands of 'friends' (see "people they've never actually met" ) can allow them to comment on anything they think they know about.. or should know best about... or really know nothing about but just wanted to say 'kewl' or 'lol' to. Also used to repost pictures from anywhere on the internet about anything they know nothing about. =note however many pictures of cats and food are also to be found= ...

Users convince themselves that having the many thousands of friends does in fact mean that they themselves are more popular and socially powerful than is the case in the real world 'simulation' aka LIFE .. FB executives are delerious with joy/greed over the high popularity of their website/social media experience because it means they can charge thousands or hundreds of thousands of dollars for advertising space from third party companies wishing to promote their products. And also because of the popularity of FB can sell shares in this 'imaginary' electronic product/social experience. (Whether users actually pay any attention to the advertising remains untested... the users clicked away the ads to check on what 'steve the polish skateboarder did to the old guy at the railway station' ) ...

Users often complain of having no privacy after posting their photos/comments and setting the 'security levels' to private/friends only .. seemingly oblivious to the concept of "if its on the web its EVERYWHERE!!" .. FB executives further promote this beleif system by stating they do not give out personal information .. while collecting personal information at every point and 'storing' it for the own unknown future purposes.

Aged users can often be found on FB recently ... with no clear idea of what to post where or to who .. which can result in random users halfway around the planet suddenly receiving information on 'how my bladder leakage got worse after eating pie that tasted funny at the church fete' ... which may result in mental scarring for many years... whether this situation may finally result in PTSD is yet to be determined.

USE WITH CAUTION - any person you havent met or plan to meet in real life (IRL) may in fact be using FB to try and gain their own set of information from you... and what looks like a cute girl/guy in a swimsuit laughing at the beach that wants to share their trivia of life information with you .. may in fact be ; A Russian Mobster, A African Conman wanting to shift millions of 'free dollars' to your account, A government official from anywhere (but likely CIA/FBI) that wants to check why you lol'd at the pic of the terrorist pretending to be a normal person on a bus, or lastly some sweaty weirdo living in a basement that will soon commence stalking you because 'your life is so perfect.. I WANT IT'.

I hide my face and name and have a facebook profile exclusive for my motovlogging self just because I don't want anybody that already knows me to find about that hobby. Some people know what I do but haven't found my channel, they really don't show much interest. I mentioned a lot of times that I upload videos to youtube and that was it, nobody asked what kind of videos or what's your channel name.
I interact with a few vloggers on facebook and there are a couple groups I'm into. Being a "person" on facebook makes it a more interactive experience.
Now about the fan pages, I don't get it. It seems like one way communication. More like the youtube comments, very few vloggers respond to what people post on their videos. I know it can be hard replying to hundreds of comments a day but some don't even get that many.

Hmmm well said my friend. Wanna be Facebook friends? I swear I'm a hot Russian 18 year old ;)

@Shirou this is pretty much what I'm talking about... I don't get the one way fan page thing... Unless you've got some sort of page that you're trying to make money off of why make it that way?

And I can totally understand not wanting people in real life to know about your YouTube channel... I'm pretty sensitive about mine. Other people who motovlog understand. I'm sure I'll be found out eventually though lol

well .. dunno about making a FB fan page for myself ... i dont 'need the fame' .. lol ...

plus my missus doesnt even subscribe to my YT channel! o_O

I think once you get a good amount of subs its smart to use pages like FB/Twitter to keep your followers entertained between videos.

I have one but I am slowly weening my self off Facebook. I mean my personal FB, I really stopped using because of annoying status updates and crap my friends make, I just use it to "keep in touch" with friends and family when I need to. With that, doing that really de-motivates me from checking my channel FB Page.

I know it is bad to neglect your channel's FB page if you are trying to market yourself but I just lost my appeal to FB.

The only other active Social Media outlet I use is Instagram but sadly, people are trying to make that into FB with pictures that contain just text of their feelings or posting other people's pictures they didn't take themselves...and I for one was ok with people posting just pics of their foods. :/

I had my facebook as a regular one for awhile but I got really tired of seeing posts in languages that I couldn't understand. Mainly from Taiwan so once I figures out how to make it a fan page I did

I rarely check my personal FB page these days. I only keep it because it's the only way I keep in touch with friends and family back in the UK. I check my TriumfAnt page daily but I don't post often. I guess I'd rather post too little than too much. I know what it feels like to get too many updates from people, I just unfollow them.

That picture of text crap annoys the hell out of me!
